MURDER, SHE WROTE (NBC, New!) - Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Alexandra Cunningham ("Prime Suspect") are set to team for a revival of the 1984-1996 CBS series, which starred Angela Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher. (Deadline.com)

PLAYERS (The CW, New!) - Nina Fiore and John Herrera ("Alphas") have booked a new drama at the netlet set against the Golden Age of Hollywood, about "a young Midwestern woman who moves to Los Angeles to avenge her sister's death at the hands of a predatory studio head and finds herself swept up in the Hollywood star-making machine, unwittingly becoming the ingénue in a closeted movie star's lavender marriage, and a pawn in a studio fixer's scheme against the mob." Danny Cannon ("The Tomorrow People") is on board to direct the potential hour with Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman of the Warner Bros. Television-based A Very Good Production likewise executive producing. Fiore and Herrera then will serve as supervising producers. (Deadline.com)

SECRETS & LIES (ABC, New!) - The Alphabet has issued a 10-episode order for an import of the upcoming Australian crime drama, about "a family man who finds the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. He has no choice but to try to find the real killer as his marriage, his kids, his reputation and his sanity are all at stake." Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan and Hoodlum's Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield are executive producing the project for ABC Studios. The search is underway for a showrunner. (Deadline.com)
