MTV'S HIT SERIES "GIRL CODE" CALLS ON YOUNG PEOPLE TO "GYT" (GET YOURSELF TESTED) IN HONOR OF WORLD AIDS DAY DURING A SPECIAL EPISODE AIRING WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27 AT 10:00 P.M. ET/PT

New York, NY (November 20, 2013) - In advance of World AIDS Day (December 1), the cast from MTV's hit series "Girl Code" will call on young people to "GYT" - Get Yourself Tested - for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) during a new episode airing Wednesday, November 27 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Fans' favorite funny ladies teamed up with MTV's GYT campaign to roll-out a series of humorous sketches that urge young people to get tested. To check out a sketch from the episode, click here.

The sketches are presented under the "GYT" campaign with funding from Gilead Sciences. The short-pieces will air throughout the half-hour episode, encouraging young people to look beyond flipping coins and other mystical options when it comes to getting important sexual health answers. GYT encourages young people to talk with health care providers and partners about getting tested for STDs, and gives them access to information and local testing centers at www.GYTNOW.org.

It is estimated that as many as one in two sexually active young people will contract an STD by age 25 - and most won't know it. Of the more than one million Americans living with HIV, nearly one in five are unaware of their status. The only way to know if you have HIV or another STD is to get tested. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends all Americans age 13 to 64 be tested for HIV as part of a routine health care.

In honor of World AIDS Day, some of the "Girl Code" cast members weighed in on the importance of getting tested.

Jessimae Peluso says, "Getting yourself tested is more important than getting yourself shoes. Your health comes first, the shoes can wait."

Carly Aquilino says, "Get tested, its one less awkward conversation you need to have on a first date and just make sure you know his status too."

Tanisha Long gives the advice, "If you're grown up enough to have sex then you're grown up enough to get tested! It's your responsibility to yourself and your sexual partners!"

"Girl Code," a series spin off of MTV2's "Guy Code," is a strong and smart female driven comedy that features comics giving viewers hilarious and over the top tips about womanhood. This season the girls give advice on all-new topics from everything to boyfriends exes, one night stands, love, getting back out there to shoes, clothes, food, karaoke and so much more!
