Gripping Suspense Drama Series 'Notes from the Last Row' Premieres June 26
Acclaimed for his nuanced exploration of the human psyche, Director Kim Gyu-tae (The Trunk, Our Blues, It's Okay, That's Love) joins forces with veteran actor Choi Min-sik (Lucy, Old Boy) and rising powerhouse Choi Hyun-wook (Twenty Five Twenty One, Weak Hero Class 1) in the gripping suspense drama series, Notes from the Last Row, premiering globally on June 26.
Notes from the Last Row follows Heo Mun-oh (Choi Min-sik), a grumpy literature professor and failed novelist, who discovers untapped genius in Lee Kang (Choi Hyun-wook), a mysterious student seated in the last row of his class.
The teaser trailer opens with Heo Mun-oh staring at an open notebook, unable to write a single word. Twenty years after publishing his debut novel, he hasn't written anything since, and now lives the quiet life of a literature professor.
Everything shifts when he encounters Lee Kang, a student who always sits at the very last row of his classroom. Seeing something great in Kang's work, Mun-oh tells him he has real talent. The trailer then cuts to Kang on stage receiving an award, thanking Mun-oh in his acceptance speech - as if to show the two have formed a profound mentor-pupil bond.
There's a lot of curiosity building with Kang's writing, with Mun-oh wanting to know where his story will go next. The two appear to grow closer, sharing jokes and even high-fives, as their one-on-one sessions continue. But the mood shifts abruptly when a disturbed Mun-oh asks whether Kang's story is true. The teaser leaves viewers wondering what lies within Kang's mysterious story - and what it will ultimately set in motion between the mentor and the pupil.
The teaser poster hints at the uneasy dynamic between them. Mun-oh's visibly shaken expression stands in stark contrast to Kang's cool, almost cynical gaze. One wears every emotion on his face, while the other remains unreadable - setting up the psychological push-and-pull that drives the series.
Notes from the Last Row premieres June 26, only on Netflix.
