Prime Instant Video to Be the Exclusive Subscription Streaming Home for the "Masterpiece on PBS" Period Drama "Mr. Selfridge"
Agreement builds upon previously announced PBS content partnership, including Downton Abbey and other MASTERPIECE titles, NOVA, documentaries from Ken Burns and PBS KIDS programs
SEATTLE -- Nov. 20, 2013 -- (NASDAQ:AMZN) - Amazon.com, Inc. today announced a content licensing agreement with PBS Distribution that will make Prime Instant Video the exclusive online-only subscription home for streaming the popular series Mr. Selfridge. Beginning today, Prime Instant Video will be the only such subscription service to offer the first season of the ITV Studios/MASTERPIECE co-produced series from WGBH Boston starring three-time Emmy winner Jeremy Piven.
"Our Prime customers have an appetite for MASTERPIECE, as evidenced by the undeniable success of Downton Abbey - which is the all-time most watched series on Prime Instant Video," said Brad Beale, Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon. "Mr. Selfridge is another great MASTERPIECE show that our customers love and we are excited to add it to our growing list of exclusive programming in Prime Instant Video."
Andrea Downing, Co-President, PBS Distribution, added, "While PBS stations will always be the first place to see our premier content, we are also happy to give viewers additional ways to enjoy the PBS programs they love wherever they want. We look forward to introducing a whole new audience to Mr. Selfridge through Prime Instant Video, and driving more viewers to tune in to Season 2 this spring via their local PBS station."
Based on an adaption of Lindy Woodhead's biography Shopping, Seduction & Mr. Selfridge, the series follows the opulent Selfridges department store in London and the life of its eccentric owner, Harry Gordon Selfridge. Originally broadcast on ITV and PBS in early 2013, MASTERPIECE has already commissioned a second season for 2014.
Prime Instant Video is the exclusive online-only subscription home for PBS series Downton Abbey (beginning December 1), the CBS summer blockbuster series Under the Dome and other hit TV series including Justified, Falling Skies, Grimm, Suits and Covert Affairs. Prime Instant Video also offers an exclusive collection of kids shows from Nick Jr. that customers won't find on any other online-only subscription service, including favorites like Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!, Blue's Clues, and The Backyardigans. Debuting this fall, Amazon's first original series Alpha House and Betas can be found exclusively on Prime Instant Video as well.
