MTV'S "CATFISH: THE TV SHOW" RETURNS FOR A DRAMATIC THIRD SEASON FILLED WITH SHOCKING AND UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 7 AT 10:00 P.M. ET/PT

NEW YORK, NY (April 2, 2014) - MTV announced today "Catfish: The TV Show," the critically acclaimed docu-series that catapulted "catfishing" into every day conversation, will return for a 10-episode third season on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph will take viewers on a wild emotional rollercoaster ride beyond the usual tales of "love," featuring the most memorable stories in the show's history.

"Making 'Catfish: The TV Show' the last two years has exposed me to all kinds of strange and unusual scenarios, but nothing could have prepared me for the twists and turns of season three," said Nev Schulman. "This season we have family members catfishing each other, celebrities hunting down their super-fan stalkers, Instagram romance, people posing as famous music producers and scams resulting in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars. The lies, love, betrayals and surprises will not only make you think twice about online love, but will completely change the way you think about society."

In addition to the new types of stories, Nev and Max will also employ new techniques expanding their investigating repertoire. From new digital based research to more in-person meetings and even bringing the hopeful along for the investigation, season three will expand the scope in which they seek to uncover the truth of these possible digital deceptions.

"This season is much more mobile than the previous seasons; we actually feel like detectives exploring the cold, dark corners of America both online and in real life," said Max Joseph. "A lot of these catfish only have cell phones which changes the mode of investigation. Reverse telephone lookups and tracing the geo-tags of photos has become more vital to our process and image search is no longer our weapon of choice. We've also resorted to some good-old fashioned techniques like knocking on doors, jumping on planes to visit 'witnesses' and asking questions in person."

The week prior to the season premiere, on April 30 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, MTV will air the first of two "Catfish: Untold Stories." The hour-long specials will give viewers a dynamic way to relive weird but true catfishing tales. Featuring Nev and Max as hosts, the specials will include interviews with the real-life participants sharing their wild, crazy, and bizarre experiences.

Viewers can go to MTV.com for sneak peeks of the show including bonus and extended scenes, plus exclusive interviews. For even more information and exclusive content, fans can visit "Catfish: The TV Show" Facebook page at facebook.com/MTVcatfish.

"Catfish: The TV Show" will air across MTV's international channels soon after the show's U.S. premiere beginning in May 2014 (check local listings).
