PREACHER (AMC/Sony; W: Sam Catlin; D: Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen) - Dominic Cooper is officially set to star while Elizabeth Perkins has also joined the cast of the drama pilot, based on the comic book about Jesse Custer (Cooper), a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God. Perkins then is set as Vyla Quinncannon, "a genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville." Ian Colletti and Lucy Griffiths also star. (Deadline.com)

SMILF (Showtime, New!) - Frankie Shaw's Sundance Short Film Jury Award winner - a semi-autobiographical short which "examines the travails of a young woman (Shaw) who comes to LA as both a struggling actress and a struggling single mom" - is being developed as a half-hour comedy at the pay channel. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will supervise said adaptation with Michael London and Quantity Entertainment's Emily Brecht also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED JOHN RIDLEY MARVEL PROJECT (ABC, New!) - "American Crime" creator John Ridley is staying in business with the Alphabet, this time for a "mysterious new TV series" featuring a yet-to-be-revealed Marvel property. No other details were given about the project, which presumably will be set up at ABC Studios. (EW.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Isabelle Fuhrman has been cast as Virginia Johnson's now grown daughter Tessa on "Masters of Sex," succeeding Kayla Madison (Deadline.com); "Modern Family" co-executive producer Vali Chandrasekaran has inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television which will see him promoted to executive producer next season (Deadline.com); Sterling K.
