FAME (Lifetime, New!) - Josh Safran ("Smash") is spearheading a revival of the movie-turned-TV series, which "revolves around a group of adults struggling to balance high pressures of life at a performing arts college along with the trials and drama of their personal lives." Writer Lawrence D. Cohen and original creator Michael Gore were behind a previous attempt in 2001-02 for ABC. MGM Television and A+E Studios will co-produce the new incarnation with Nigel Lythgoe, Chad Gutstein and Charles Segars also among the executive producers. (THR.com)


WAY, THE (Hulu/Universal; W: Jessica Goldberg; D: Mike Cahill) - Actress Michelle Monaghan ("True Detective") and director Mike Cahill (Another Earth) have both signed onto the upcoming drama, which examines a family at the center of a controversial faith-based movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power. She'll play Sarah Cleary, "a high level member of a controversial movement navigating the truths - and untruths - colliding in her life." (Deadline.com)


AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Leonard Roberts has been cast as Dennis Schatzman in FX's "American Crime Story," succeeding Gbenga Akinnagbe (Deadline.com); Chuck Tatham has inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television where he'll be promoted to executive producer on the studio's "Modern Family" (Deadline.com); NBC has extended the cast options on "Unveiled" co-stars Will Kemp, Stephan James and Mouzam Makkar as part of an effort to redevelop the drama pilot under a new writer (Deadline.com); Sean Maguire's Robin Hood and Rebecca Mader's Wicked Witch have been promoted to series regular on "Once Upon a Time" (THR.com); and Lucy Liu will visit HBO's "Girls" as "a version of herself" (TVLine.com).
