GSN CONTINUES TO GAMIFY CULTURAL TRENDS WITH GREENLIGHT OF ITS HORROR-THEMED GAME SHOW "HELLEVATOR" FOR EIGHT EPISODES
Teams of Three Face Psychological Terror and Scary Challenges to Vie for Up to $50,000
June 18, 2015 - Santa Monica, CA - GSN, the leader in game shows and competitive entertainment, announced today that it has greenlit eight episodes of a new horror-themed game show, HELLEVATOR. The terrifying new show from Blumhouse, the team that brought the world the "Paranormal Activity", "Insidious", "Sinister", and "The Purge" franchises, dares contestants to survive a series of challenges from the depths of an abandoned warehouse. The new series is expected to premiere later this year, and continues GSN's growth into "gamifying" cultural trends, including the successful SKIN WARS and soon-to-debut STEAMPUNK'D.
In HELLEVATOR, a team of three friends rides a haunted elevator into various levels of an abandoned warehouse. One player must get out on each floor and conquer a frightening challenge in order to earn money for the team. But if they don't make it back in time, the elevator moves on without them. Horror film icons Jen and Sylvia Soska, aka the "Twisted Twins," pull the strings throughout the game - taking delight in the horror.
HELLEVATOR is produced by Matador and Blumhouse Productions in association with Lionsgate Television. Executive Producers are Jason Blum ("Paranormal Activity," "The Purge," "Sinister" and "Insidious"), who won a 2014 Emmy(R) Award for "The Normal Heart," and was nominated for an Academy Award(R) for "Whiplash," and Jay Peterson and Todd Lubin of Matador ("Lip Sync Battle").
"The teams from Blumhouse and Matador have created a frighteningly fun and spooky game environment," says Amy Introcaso-Davis, Executive Vice President of Programming and Development for GSN. "Horror and game enthusiasts alike will love HELLEVATOR's wild ride of fear, suspense, and unrelenting challenges."
"Our company has always wanted to create a horror-themed game show," says executive producer Jason Blum. "HELLEVATOR is a unique and new way to scare the living hell out of people and we are excited to be partners with GSN and Matador."
"You've never seen anything like this show," says executive producer Todd Lubin. "The contestants have almost no idea what they're in for and then find themselves immersed in a horror story where they have to move past their deepest fears, to both survive and win money."
