AMC ANNOUNCES STRAIGHT-TO-SERIES ORDER FOR CLYDE PHILLIPS' U.S. ADAPTATION OF "BROKE" (WT) TO BE CO-PRODUCED WITH LIONSGATE

NEW YORK, NY - June 25, 2015 - AMC today announced a straight-to-series order for the drama "Broke" (working title). A co-production between AMC Studios and Lionsgate, "Broke" is being adapted by writer/showrunner Clyde Phillips ("Dexter," "Nurse Jackie"), who will also serve as executive producer. AMC has ordered 10 one-hour episodes, with an expected premiere date in 2016.

Based on the Danish series "Bankerot" created by Kim Fupz Aakeson and produced by DR Broadcasting, "Broke" is a drama about two best friends who take one last shot at their dream of opening a restaurant together. One is a brilliant chef in trouble with the Mob and the law, and the other is the best sommelier in the city who is the widowed father of a teenage son. "Broke" is the story of friendship, fatherhood, grief, larceny, arson, drugs, adultery, murder, love - and blazingly original cooking.

"Clyde Phillips is a supremely talented creator we've known and admired for years," said Charlie Collier, AMC president. "Through his work on 'Dexter' and 'Nurse Jackie,' Clyde has repeatedly demonstrated his skill for crafting complex, flawed, yet irresistible characters, and we're looking forward to him bringing his continued brilliance to 'Broke.' We're also so happy to be partnering once again with our good friends at Lionsgate after the extraordinary journey we shared on 'Mad Men.'"

"We have had the great fortune to work with both Clyde Phillips and AMC for many years and we're delighted the stars have aligned to bring us together on 'Broke,'" said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television Group. "Clyde is a master storyteller with a fascinating take on the series' original characters and their unexpected relationships, and we're excited to be moving forward."

"'Broke' is unique, edgy and sexy. I can't wait to jump in and help it evolve into a groundbreaking bit of television," said Phillips. "More than that, I'm looking forward to continuing what's been a remarkable partnership with Lionsgate, and starting out on an exciting new adventure with AMC."

"Broke" will be produced by AMC Studios and Lionsgate in association with Clyde Phillips Productions. Executive producers are Phillips, Henrik Ruben Genz ("Bankerot," "Borgen"), Malene Blenkov ("Bankerot") and Piv Bernth ("The Killing," "Forbrydelsen" and "Bron/Broen").

Phillips is represented by CAA.
