AMERICAN HEROES CHANNEL AND USA TODAY PARTNER TO SEARCH FOR THE "RED BANDANNA HERO AWARD" WINNER -- AMERICA'S ULTIMATE SELFLESS HERO

--Along with the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, AHC and USA TODAY Launch National Competition for Nominations at www.ahctv.com/redbandanna--

(Silver Spring, Md.) - American Heroes Channel (AHC) in partnership with USA TODAY and the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust has kicked off its search for America's Red Bandanna Hero Award winner. The name was inspired by Welles Remy Crowther, also known as "The Man in the Red Bandanna," who saved as many as 12 people, according to survivor accounts, following the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. While the world was watching but hope seemed lost, Crowther reminded us what's possible when courage is summoned and fear renounced, renewing our faith in humanity during one of the darkest days in American history. The competition provides an opportunity to pay tribute to Crowther's intrepid actions, and the Red Bandanna Hero Award will acknowledge the ultimate, everyday hero who exemplifies the American spirit and defines us as a nation. Nominations are now being accepted at http://www.ahctv.com/redbandanna/.

The winner of the Red Bandanna Hero Award will receive a $10,000 donation to the charitable organization of their choosing, as well as a trip for two to attend the Boston College Red Bandanna Game on September 18, 2015, at the Boston College stadium in Chestnut Hill. Boston College initiated the Red Bandanna Game to honor Crowther, who attended the university where he played lacrosse, wearing his bandanna under his helmet. In addition, AHC will create a "Hero Moment" video about the winner which will be aired on the network, and online at ahctv.com.

"Heroes like Welles Crowther are born in a moment but live on for eternity as symbols of courage and personal sacrifice in defense of the greater good," said Kevin Bennett, General Manager, American Heroes Channel. "Heroes rarely refer to themselves as such, and so it's with great humility and gratitude to their service that we create the Red Bandanna Hero Award in Welles' memory, to provide Americans everywhere with the opportunity to recognize others who selflessly rose to an unexpected occasion."

Nominations for the Red Bandanna Hero Award are being accepted now at www.ahctv.com/redbandanna. Click here to learn more about the story of Welles Crowther from AHC: http://www.ahctv.com/redbandanna/welles-crowther-hero-moment/
