IFC CASTS JOHN C. MCGINLEY TO STAR IN NEW COMEDY HORROR ORIGINAL SERIES, "STAN AGAINST EVIL"

Janet Varney Set to Co-Star - Season One Premieres this Fall

NEW YORK, NY - April 18, 2016 - IFC announced today that critically-acclaimed actor John C. McGinley has been cast as the lead in their new scripted comedy-horror series, Stan Against Evil. Best known for his role in the Emmy-nominated series Scrubs, McGinley, who is also a producer on the show, will play the disgruntled former police sheriff Stanley Miller. Actress and comedian Janet Varney (You're the Worst) has been cast to play the new sheriff in town, and Stan's partner in crime, Evie Barret. Written and produced by Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation) and executive produced by Tom Lassally (3 Arts), Frank Scherma and Justin Wilkes (RadicalMedia), Stan Against Evil is slated to air eight episodes on IFC this fall. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in June in Atlanta.

Stan Against Evil follows Stanley Miller (McGinley), a sour, aging bulldog of a New England police sheriff who has recently lost his position as head honcho due to an angry outburst at a most inappropriate moment -- his wife's funeral. Impatient and judgmental, he's not exactly accepting or kind towards people from different walks of life. When the new, strong-willed sheriff Evie Barret (Varney) opens his eyes to the plague of angry demons haunting their small New Hampshire town, Stan begrudgingly joins an alliance with her to fight them off.

"Dana has crafted the most deliciously combustible, subversive contrarian on television. And we are going to set it off!" said John C. McGinley.

McGinley is an audience favorite for his hilarious portrayal of 'Dr. Perry Cox' in the Emmy-nominated Scrubs, which ended its successful nine season run in 2010. He more recently played 'Mr. Mansfield' for two seasons on TBS's workplace comedy series Ground Floor. His impressive career in film spans a diverse range of characters in over seventy films to date, including such features as Platoon, Wall Street, Talk Radio, Any Given Sunday, Are We Done Yet?, Wild Hogs, Identity, The Rock, Nothing to Lose, Set It Off, Seven, Office Space, Mother, Surviving the Game, On Deadly Ground, Point Break, and A Midnight Clear. He recently received critical acclaim for his role as Brooklyn Dodgers' radio broadcaster 'Red Barber' in Warner Bros.' 42, the life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. McGinley is represented by UTA and attorney Kevin Morris.

In addition to playing Becca in the popular comedy series You're The Worst, Janet Varney is also known as Korra from the animated hit The Legend of Korra, Carly on two seasons of Burning Love and as co-founder and director of SF Sketchfest, the largest independent comedy festival in the U.S. She is represented by Innovative Artists and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman.
