SHOWTIME(R) ACCELERATES WORLD TELEVISION PREMIERE DATE FOR "ZERO DAYS" TO SATURDAY, NOV. 5 AT 9PM ET/PT
New York, NY - October 25, 2016 - With global attention on cyber warfare intensifying in recent weeks thanks to the latest WikiLeaks email releases, Russian hack attacks, and with less than two weeks until the U.S. presidential election, SHOWTIME today announced it has accelerated the world television premiere date of ZERO DAYS to Saturday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. As the subject continues to make headlines across the U.S and world, this film becomes more relevant and powerful documentary as viewers are being confronted by these issues in their daily lives.
ZERO DAYS is a documentary thriller about warfare in a world without rules - the world of cyber war. The film tells the story of Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer malware that the U.S. and Israel unleashed to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility, and which ultimately spread beyond its intended target. It's the most comprehensive accounting to date of how a clandestine mission hatched by two allies with clashing agendas opened forever the Pandora's Box of cyber warfare.
For the film, writer and director Alex Gibney spoke directly with various National Security Administration (NSA) sources, including former NSA Director Michael Hayden, leadership from the American Iranian Council, Russian cyber security experts and other high-level consultants. An expert on the intersection between privacy and technology, Gibney also spent significant time with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for his last film, We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks.
The film is produced by Gibney's Jigsaw Productions and Global Produce's Marc Shmuger, and executive produced by Jeff Skoll and Diane Weyermann of Participant Media and Sarah Dowland. Gibney's previous films also include Academy Award-winning Taxi to the Dark Side and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.
