By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

ABBY'S (NBC) - Neil Flynn ("The Middle") has signed onto the multi-camera comedy pilot, set at an unlicensed bar in San Diego where the regulars enthusiastically enforce a unique set of rules that give them a sense of community and allow them to avoid the frustrating behavior found at other establishments. He'll play Fred, "a fixture at the bar, grateful for a place to relax, unwind, and have a beer every night." (Deadline.com)
DIAGNOSIS (Netflix, New!) - Scott Rudin Productions and Lightbox Entertainment are set to team with the New York Times for an eight-episode series based on the latter's medical column written by Dr. Lisa Sanders. The project will "follow patients with mysterious illnesses and track their journeys to find a diagnosis and, potentially, a cure." Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, Jonathan Chinn, Simon Chinn, P.G. Morgan and Jake Silverstein are among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
LAW & ORDER: SVU (NBC) - Scott Porter is bound for the show's April 18 episode as "the husband of a woman who goes missing along with their young daughter." Said installment also features the return of former co-star Stephanie March. (EW.com)
MODERN FAMILY (ABC) - Executive producer Abraham Higginbotham has inked a new overall deal with the show's producer 20th Century Fox Television. Said Higginbotham: "I am genuinely grateful for the opportunities Dana, Gary and the entire team at 20th have given me. I've spent most of my career working for them because they make me feel valued, respected and - from time to time - loved. Or I have Stockholm syndrome."
SUSPICION (NBC) - Kearran Giovanni is the latest to be cast in the drama pilot, about Danny Goldman (Derek Luke), who is coerced to work as an informant for the FBI after accepting a handshake loan from Tom Canter (Raul Esparza), his new friend and millionaire neighbor. She'll play Lucy Fletcher: "A psychotherapist, Lucy is beyond thrilled to marry Danny. She's also eager to take on more motherly duties should Ellie need it, and develop her friendship with Celina Canter (Jeri Ryan)." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BOBBY BOWMAN PROJECT (ABC) - Lilla Crawford and Will Kindrachuk have both booked roles on the single-camera comedy pilot, about a dysfunctional family that perseveres despite their differences and finds happiness in unexpected places. She'll play Lola, "the intelligent middle daughter who tries to navigate her quirky family and starting high school with a sense of humor. While she loves her family, she yearns to establish her identity as a teenager in a new town without her eccentric father's shadow." Kindrachuk then is set as Ted, "Lola's younger brother."
