BESTIES (Freeform) - Casey Johnson and David Windsor have signed on to co-create the multi-camera comedy series, which explores friendship, identity, race, and class as two lifelong best friends use each other to get through some of the toughest challenges that they will ever face - figuring out who they are and who they want to be. They'll succeed the Netflix-bound Kenya Barris, who will remain as an executive producer, as will Randall Winston and fellow co-creator Ranada Shepard. (Deadline.com)
COLLEGE (Amazon) - The streaming service has locked in the cast of Marja-Lewis Ryan's potential young adult series: Amy Forsyth as Kaylee, "hard, tattooed, and smart, she is a foster kid"; Jessica Sula as Addison, "self-possessed, unflappable, very comfortable in her own skin, she is a sophomore"; Max Willems as Samson, "mature, self-deprecating, with a confident, easy demeanor, he is one of Kaylee's roommates"; Zainne Saleh as Riya, "overly talkative, funny, prissy, she is the daughter of a professor and is pursuing a career in medicine"; X. Lee as Teddy, "transgender male, quiet, gamer, freshman from the Bay Area"; Birgundi Baker as Maleeka, "sardonic, sensitive, sheltered, unsure, a virgin, with a very protective mother, she is a freshman"; Barrett Carnahan as Logan, "a formerly-overweight newly- attractive frat-type"; and Inanna Sarkis as Enaas, "Addison's wealthy friend." COMMON AREAS (ABC, New!) - Hilary Winston and Mat Harawitz are set to team for a multi-camera comedy at ABC about the residents of the "micro-units in luxury buildings, where they can get a bedroom for the price of an apartment in any other city. These dorm residents are getting a lot more than just a tiny bedroom and athlete's foot, they're getting a community (but also probably athlete's foot)." Nick Stoller and Conor Welch will also executive produce via their Sony Pictures Television-based Stoller Global Solutions banner. (Deadline.com)
CONSTANCE (TNT) - Yasha Jackson has scored a role on the Elisabeth Shue-led drama pilot as Bells Bradley, "a charming, whip-smart chameleon who isn't at all as she appears." (Deadline.com)
EDGE OF SEVENTEEN, THE (YouTube, New!) - Annabel Oakes has scored a pilot order from the streaming service for a small screen take on Kelly Fremon Craig's 2016 feature of the same name, billed as "a witty coming of age series, which, in the spirit of the film, will subvert standard teen show tropes while following a high-school student and her best friend as they navigate the relationships, feelings, and realities of being a teenage girl." Oakes will write and direct the project for STXtv with Craig also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
HEATHERS (Paramount) - The cable channel quietly pulled last night's telecast following the tragic synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh that left 11 people dead. Said installments however are available via the network's VOD and streaming options. Tonight's finale is expected to air as previously scheduled. (Deadline.com)
NEXT DOOR (FOX, New!) - Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley have booked a single-camera comedy at the network about "three diverse suburban couples, all at crossroads in their lives, who bond while investigating the murder of the worst person in their neighborhood." Sony Pictures Television-based Stoller Global Solutions is behind the half-hour with Nick Stoller and Conor Welch likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com)
OTTOMAN RISING (Netflix, New!) - STXtv and Karga Seven Pictures have scored a six-episode order for a hybrid docu-drama series which "tells the epic story of Mehmed II known as Mehmed the Conqueror. It chronicles his astonishing and fabled rise from 13-year-old Child Sultan to toppling Constantinople and becoming the ruler of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century." Sarah Wetherbee, Kelly McPherson and Emre Sahin are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
OUR HOUSE (CBS, New!) - Brendan O'Brien has scored a put pilot commitment from CBS for a multi-camera comedy about "a devoted mom and dad who are committed to raising their children with the love and support the mom never got as a kid, but discover how difficult that is with her insane parents and siblings back in the picture." Nick Stoller and Conor Welch will also executive produce via their Sony Pictures Television-based Stoller Global Solutions banner. (Deadline.com)
RESIDENT, THE (FOX) - Miles Gaston Villanueva is set to recur on the sophomore season as Alec, "a born innovator, a loner and iconoclast who has spent a lifetime on the move. His father was an eccentric and Alec lived part of his childhood in a converted school bus. He studied to be an infectious disease doctor, but after a stint volunteering with Partners in Health on a Navajo reservation, he embraced a vision of medicine that tries to alter lifestyle via community outreach to prevent, rather than treat, illness." STORY OF US, THE (CBS, New!) - Mike Royce has set up a potential multi-camera comedy at the Eye billed as "a story told through interviews and vignettes spanning 10 years, about how an unlikely couple becomes an unlikely family." SURVEILLANCE (CBS) - Raphael Acloque has been cast in the Sophia Bush-led drama pilot as Jack, "a smart, calculating and resourceful journalist with an alternative news website. He's a vocal critic of the NSA, determined to expose corruption and abuse within the agency and the intelligence community at large." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED GOLDBERG & WILSON PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Sas Goldberg and Jake Wilson have sold a new comedy to the Peacock about Sally "who, newly jobless and single after a decade working abroad, returns to New York hoping to relive her college glory days with her friends, only to find the realities of adulthood have eclipsed the carefree days of their 20s." Universal Television-based Seller Suarez Productions is behind the project with the company's Flody Suarez and Jeffrey Seller also executive producing. (Variety.com)
