39 STEPS, THE (Netflix, New!) - Benedict Cumberbatch is attached to star in a limited series at the streamer based on the classic thriller novel by John Buchan, billed as "a provocative, action-packed conspiracy thriller series that updates the classic novel for relevance in contemporary times. An ordinary man, Richard Hannay, becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order: 39 Steps that will change the world as we know it, with only Hannay standing in the way." Director Edward Berger and writer Mark L. Smith are behind the project with Cumberbatch, Anonymous Content's Keith Redmon, Syndicate Entertainment's Cliff Roberts, Chapter One Pictures' Sophie Gardiner and SunnyMarch's Adam Ackland also executive producing. Alfred Hitchcock helmed the book's 1935 film adaptation. (Deadline.com)
CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND (Apple TV+, New!) - Justin Timberlake is attached to star in a TV series for the streamer based on "The Gong Show" host Chuck Barris's 1984 memoir, which "made suspect claims that being the zany Gong Show host and creator of game shows like The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game was cover for his real job: CIA assassin who took out enemies of the state in the 1960s and 1970s." Jon Worley penned the pilot script with David Hollander also on board to executive produce. George Clooney helmed a 2002 film adaptation with Sam Rockwell playing Barris. (Deadline.com)
DEVILS (The CW) - Li Jun Li has joined the cast of the show's second season. No specifics were given about her role. (Deadline.com)
FIVE DAYS AT MEMORIAL (Apple TV+) - Cornelius Smith, Jr. has scored a role on the limited series as Bryant King, "an internist and one of the few doctors of color at the hospital, who finds himself very much in the middle of the crisis." (Deadline.com)
ON MY BLOCK (Netflix) - Peggy Blow's Abuelita will return for the show's final season as a series regular. (Deadline.com)
OUR LADIES OF BROOKLYN (A.K.A. CLOISTER F*CKED) (The CW) - Em Haine is the latest addition to the drama pilot as Ellie, "Sister Frances' (Caitlin Kinnunen) little sister who arrives out of nowhere to wreak havoc. On the surface, she might seem like a wholesome Midwesterner with a badass edge. But beneath it all, she's an unparalleled con artist with a heart of gold." (Deadline.com)
PERRY MASON (HBO) - Tatiana Maslany's Sister Alice will not return for the second season of the period drama. (TVLine.com)
POWERPUFF GIRLS, THE (The CW) - Robyn Lively and Tom Kenny are the latest additions to the live-action drama pilot. Lively's Sara Bellum is "a warm and witty career woman who has a complicated romantic history with Drake. Always a friend to the Powerpuff Girls, she has remained close to them since childhood." And Kenny "will be reprising his role from the 1998 cartoon and 2016 cartoon revival as the voice of the Narrator." (Deadline.com)
PROMISED LAND (ABC) - Andres Velez is bound for the drama pilot as Carlos Rincón, "a young immigrant who comes to the Heritage Vineyard in search of a better life. On his way he meets Juana Sánchez, a young woman who dreams of becoming a teacher. Arriving in the Sonoma Valley, Carlos and Juana will tie their fortunes together in pursuit of their own American dreams." (Deadline.com)
SUPERGIRL (The CW) - Peta Sergeant is joining the cast of the current final season as Nyxly, "a quirky and kind 5th Dimensional Imp, wrongly imprisoned in the Phantom Zone and driven by tragic backstory. She helps Kara when she least expects it, and their budding friendship not only heals some of Nyxly's emotional pain, but helps Nyxly reclaim her own power." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED LAUREN HERSTIK PROJECT (HBO Max, New!) - Lauren Herstik is spearheading a half-hour comedy series at the streamer about "four lifelong "Camp Friends" during their highly anticipated CIT (counselor-in-training) summer. When a mysterious new girl arrives late from another camp, the girls' plan to have The Best Summer Ever gets thrown into disarray. Camp Friends live ten months for two. Now that things are different, the "Core Four" swear an oath to do whatever it takes for their friendship to survive." Adam Goodman of Invisible Narratives is also on board to executive produce. (Deadline.com)
YOUNGER (Paramount+) - Creator Darren Star confirmed a proposed spin-off of the series is being developed around Hilary Duff's character, editor-turned-publisher Kelsey Peters: "We're talking about it. It's a big question mark whether it's going to happen," Star says. "It could be great, but we never know if these things are going to happen until they're going to happen." The project would be set in Los Angeles with Kelsey "following another dream." "The best way to describe it is that it would be a bit of a female 'Entourage' with Kelsey as the lead," Star continues. "Still, the caveat is if it's going to happen." No network is currently attached. (Variety.com)
