GAYLE KING AND NORAH O'DONNELL TO ANCHOR "THE CHAUVIN VERDICT," A LIVE, ONE-HOUR SPECIAL ON THE TRIAL OF A MINNEAPOLIS POLICE OFFICER FOR THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD

Tonight, April 20, 10:00 PM, ET

Gayle King, Co-host of CBS THIS MORNING, and Norah O'Donnell, Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS EVENING NEWS, will anchor THE CHAUVIN VERDICT, a live, one-hour special on the trial of a Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd to be broadcast tonight, April 20, (10:00 PM, PT/ET) on the CBS Television Network.

King will anchor the special from Minneapolis and O'Donnell from Washington, D.C. THE CHAUVIN VERDICT will feature reporting from a team of CBS News correspondents looking at the trial, the impact of the case on policing, and what Floyd's death means for the country going forward. The hour will deliver context and depth to the case, which brought to the forefront racial issues that have existed for decades and pleas for change following the death of Floyd and the subsequent arrest of four Minneapolis police officers. Chauvin was the first to go on trial.

"The death of George Floyd was an inflection point in the history of race relations in this country," said Alvin Patrick, executive producer of THE CHAUVIN VERDICT. "It is important that we explore all aspects of this case with context and depth, so that Americans can be fully informed in this historic moment."

The special will feature Jamie Yuccas's will report on the trial and the verdict. CBS News chief justice and homeland security correspondent Jeff Pegues will explore policing in America and whether there has been any forward progress. CBS News contributor Troy Roberts will compare the case against Los Angeles police officers for beating Rodney King 30 years ago, which resulted in widespread rioting when the officers were found not guilty, and today's Chauvin trial. And author and professor, Ibram X. Kendi will offer his thoughts on what happens next.

THE CHAUVIN VERDICT is produced by CBS News' Race and Culture Unit. Alvin Patrick and Mitch Weitzner are the executive producers.
