ALPHABETICAL DIARIES, THE (Hulu, New!) - Sheila Heti's forthcoming book has been optioned for series development by the streamer, "in which Heti took a decade's worth of diary entries and rearranged the sentences in alphabetical order." Hunting Lane's Jamie Patricof and Katie McNeill are among the auspices. (THR.com)
BEACON 23 (Spectrum) - Spectrum Originals and AMC Networks have renewed the series for a second season in advance of its launch. Glen Mazzara and Joy Blake are set to serve as showrunner on the sophomore run, succeeding Zak Penn. It's understood the early pickup will allow the series, which is filming in Toronto for three more months, to stay in continuous production. (Deadline.com)
IRONHEART (Disney+) - "RuPaul's Drag Race" winner Shea Couleé has scored a role on the upcoming Marvel Studios series. As usual, no character details were given. (Deadline.com)
LITTLE ELLEN (HBO Max) - The streamer has pulled the plug on the animted series ahead of its third season premiere. It's understood this is the latest decision by Warner Bros. Discovery "to write off the costs of certain productions as part of a "purchase accounting" maneuver because of the merger." (Deadline.com)
LOVERS, THE (Sundance Now, New!) - The streamer has signed onto the Sky's British comedy series, which follows Janet (Roisin Gallagher), a foul-mouthed, hilarious, Belfast supermarket worker who couldn't give a shit about anything much at all, including her life, and Seamus (Johnny Flynn) a handsome, self-centred, political broadcaster with what looks to be a perfect London life and a celebrity girlfriend. (Deadline.com)
SEX EDUCATION (Netflix) - Ncuti Gatwa will return as Eric Effiong for the show's fourth season. The actor is currently starring in the latest incarnation of "Doctor Who." Filming on the new season is set to take place this fall. (Variety.com)
UNTITLED ORPHAN PROJECT (Hulu, New!) - "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo is set to topline and executive produce an eight-episode limited series for the streamer: "Inspired by the true story of the Midwestern couple who adopts what they believe is a little girl with dwarfism. As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they're confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they're willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that's fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage." Katie Robbins is behind the project, with Erin Levy, Laura Holstein, Mike Epps, Dan Spilo, Niles Kirchner and Andrew Stearn also among the executive producers for Pompeo's ABC Signature-based Calamity Jane banner. As part of said casting, Pompeo "will be scaling back her on-screen presence on the ABC medical drama next season to eight episodes." (Deadline.com)
