discovery+ Announces January 5 Premiere Date, Debuts Key Art For Definitive Capitol Attack Documentary "January 6th"
Award-winning filmmakers Gédéon and Jules Naudet definitive account of the attack on the capitol premieres January 5 on discovery+.
Discovery+, the definitive non-fiction subscription streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery today unveiled the key art and announced that the documentary film "January 6th" premieres Thursday, January 5, 2023. Produced by Propagate, the film begins its festival run with a world premiere at the 2022 Hamptons International Film Festival on Saturday, October 8.
Emmy and Peabody winning directors Gédéon and Jules Naudet ("9/11," "November 13: Attack on Paris," "The Presidents Gatekeepers") examine January 6th from the unique perspective of the heroes, first responders, and survivors of the attack. It's an apolitical story of resilience and bravery that features Speaker Nancy Pelosi, DC Police Chief Robert J. Contee III, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, and over 50 Senators, Representatives, staffers from both sides of the aisle, and police officers as they reveal their first-hand experience of the attack. It is the only documentary for which the Capitol and Metropolitan Police Departments granted full access to their officers.
"'January 6th' is the complete story of the attack on the Capitol told by those who witnessed the chaos first-hand. From the beginning, we knew we wanted to tell the story of this unprecedented moment in history as a human event and without political bias," said directors Gédéon and Jules Naudet. "We believe that in moments where the worst of humanity is on display, there will always be heroes who step up as shining examples of courage and selflessness in the face of tragedy. Our hope is that people come away from this film with a deep appreciation for the countless acts of bravery on display that day, both big and small."
"The events of the January 6th, 2021 attack on the Capitol shook the world, so when two of today's greatest filmmakers known for capturing history changing moments, Gédéon and Jules Naudet, brought us their vision in the aftermath of the attack, we knew immediately we had to make this film." said Igal Svet, VP, Documentaries, discovery+. "'January 6th' is an absolute must-see for anyone interested in experiencing the full account of the most shocking day in recent American history. The insights that Gédéon and Jules share in this emotionally charged documentary come from tremendous research, unparalleled access and meticulousness that make this the definitive account of the attack on the Capitol."
