BEHIND THE BEATS (YouTube, New!) - The streaming service has commissioned 26 five-minute episodes of a new animated series which "tells the story of how talented musicians with radically different styles came together to create a new genre or movement." France Télévisions is behind the project, which will launch with four episodes on November 18. Baptiste Jaquemet is the creator while Corinne Kouper (TeamTO) and Emmanuel Deletang (22D Music Group) are the producers. (Variety.com)
CHICAGO MED (NBC) - Brian Tee's Ethan Choi is exiting the series after eight episodes with his final episode due on December 7. The actor however will return behind the camera direct the show's 16th installment this season. (Deadline.com)
CONNERS, THE (ABC) - The show's current fifth season will reportedly include a full 22 episodes, its largest season order to date. (Deadline.com)
DEAD BOY DETECTIVES (HBO Max) - The upcoming drama series has tapped the following actors to recur: Michael Beach as Tragic Mick, "a melancholy walrus trapped in a human body who helps the Dead Boys out sometimes"; Joshua Colley as Monty, "an affable, astrology-loving teen who can see ghosts... and falls pretty hard for Edwin Payne"; and Lindsey Gort as Maxine, "a quirky librarian in Port Townsend with a big, messy secret." KILLING EVE (BBC America) - Former lead writer Laura Neal has signed a multi-year overall deal with MGM Television. (Deadline.com)
LE COQ (NBC, New!) - Guy Branum has sold a new comedy to the network which "focuses on the jaded proprietor of a run-down Midwestern gay watering hole and his troubled, combative and charming crew of employees." Todd Milliner and Sean Hayes of Hazy Mills Productions as well as Zack Freedman will also executive produce for Universal Television. (Deadline.com)
LIFE AFTER (Amazon, New!) - The streamer has landed an eight-part docuseries due on October 18 which "follows 12 retired NFL players as they face a new chapter of their lives following their professional football careers." Participants include DeMarcus Ware, Spice Adams, Thomas Q. Jones, Bear Pascoe, Al Baker, Justin Forsett, Jeff Allen, Andrew Hawkins, Domenik Hixon, Sherrod Martin, Daniel Wilcox and Myron Rolle. Melanie Capacia Johnson, Mike Basone, Paul Hutchens, Luke Arreguin, Thomas Q. Jones, Brandon Miree, Cary Floyd, Griffin Gmelich and Quincy Newell are the executive producers while Nick Ruff directs for Neo Studios, New World Distribution, Forever Holiday, Midnight Train Productions, Black in Hollywood and TwentyOne14 Media. LOVE ISLAND (UK) (Hulu) - Maya Jama has been tapped as the new host of the reality competition. She places Laura Whitmore, who left earlier this year. The late Caroline Flack hosted seasons 1-5. (Deadline.com)
OUTER CALISTOGA (ABC, New!) - Guy Branum has likewise sold a comedy to the Alphabet about "how the renovation of a country house in fancy Calistoga brings together three families who all - for wildly different reasons - live one town over. The families have little in common in terms of outlook, values or taste in coffee drinks, but find themselves coming together to search for a better life, despite never agreeing about what that means." Aline Brosh McKenna, Heather Morris and Zack Freedman will also executive produce for Lean Machine and ABC Signature. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED GLEE DOCUSERIES (discovery+, New!) - Ample Entertainment has landed a three-part docuseries at the streamer which "will have access to key cast and crew members, who will share first-hand stories of their time on the comedy drama series that ran for over 100 episodes between 2009 and 2015. It will lift the curtain to reveal the highs and lows of the production and the on-set community and will also feature testimonials of close family and friends with never-heard-before stories." The company's Ari Mark and Phil Lott will presumably executive produce. (Deadline.com)
