1923 (Paramount+) - Timothy Dalton has signed onto Taylor Sheridan's latest as Donald Whitfield, "a powerful, self-confident man who reeks of wealth and the lack of empathy it requires to attain it. He is intimidating and nefarious and is used to getting what he wants." (Deadline.com)
ABANDONS, THE (Netflix) - Kurt Sutter's proposed outlaw western series has received a 10-episode order. It follows "a group of diverse, outlier families pursuing their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon when a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out." Sutter will executive produce via his SutterInk banner. (Deadline.com)
BARRY (HBO) - Supervising producer Jason Kim has signed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Television and Onyx Collective, where he'll develop new series projects. (Deadline.com)
BEL-AIR (Peacock) - Carla Banks Waddles has been promoted to showrunner of the reboot series. She'll take over from T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson, who have stepped down over creative differences but will remain as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
DUNE: THE SISTERHOOD (HBO Max) - Indira Varma has signed onto the prequel series as Empress Natalya, "a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino." (Deadline.com)
FARGO (FX) - The anthology's fifth season has cast David Rysdahl as Wayne Lyon; Sam Spruell as Ole Munch; Jessica Pohly as Agent Meyer; and Nick Gomez as Agent Joaquin. No other details were given. (Deadline.com)
FATAL ATTRACTION (Paramount+) - David Meunier and Dee Wallace have both joined the feature-turned-TV series as Richard Macksey, "a psychology professor at the university and Ellen's (Alyssa Jirrels) thesis advisor, mentor, and friend, whose personal interest in the work and life of Carl Jung ignites Ellen's own interest"; and Emma Rauch, "who is described as open, friendly, chic, and interested but also sensitive to boundaries," respectively. GANGS OF NEW YORK (New!) - Oscar winner Martin Scorsese is attached to direct and executive produce a proposed TV take on Herbert Asbury's non-fiction book-turned-feature film. Miramax Television is set to make the TV rounds later this month with the project. Brett Leonard is also attached as writer with Scorsese's managers Rick Yorn and Chris Donnelly likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com)
HEATWAVE (HBO Max, New!) - Writer Anna Symon and director Shannon Murphy are set to team for a new limited series in which "on a scorching family holiday in Ibiza, a forty-something woman embarks on a reckless affair with her friends' teenage son. As the temperature rises, long held secrets and buried grievances set fire to both marriages. Both couples must confront the reality of who they once were and who they have now become." Tiger Aspect Productions is producing. (Deadline.com)
INTERIOR CHINATOWN (Hulu) - Jimmy O. Yang is set to star in the 10-episode series for the streamer, about Willis Wu, "a background actor in a procedural cop show called Black & White. Relegated to the background, Willis goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables and dreaming about a whole world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, and in the process discovers what it feels like to be in the spotlight." Charles Yu is behind the project, which is based on his 2020 bestseller of the same name. Taika Waititi will also direct the pilot and executive produce alongside Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Elsie Choi, Jeff Skoll, Miura Kite and Garrett Basch for Rideback, Participant and Dive. OPERATION: KICKBOXER (New!) - A new series based on the "Kickboxer" action films is being developed by Gary Marenzi's Marenzi & Associates. Executive producers Todd Garner and Dimitri Logothetis as well as showrunner Gary Scott Thompson are among the auspices: "Operation: Kickboxer will be a martial arts-driven espionage series which finds the youngest Sloane brother, Michael, thrust into the world of international geopolitical intrigue. In order to earn his freedom, Sloane must go undercover as an MMA contender, using his clout to gain access to targets around the world, while remaining in contention for the champion title belt." PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS (Disney+) - Adam Copeland, Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy have all been cast in the Rick Riordan adaptation. Copeland will recur as Ares, the god of War; with Cryer as Echidna, The Mother of Monsters; and Kennedy as Medusa, the infamous gorgon. (Variety.com)
PRETTY FREEKIN SCARY (Disney Channel, New!) - Jason P. Hauser has scored a 20-episode order for a new multi-camera sitcom based on the popular books, which "follows the adventures of Frankie Ripp, a 14-year-old girl who has a seemingly perfect life - great parents, annoying little brother, lifelong BFF - until she dies. After some heated debate in the Underworld with the Grim Reaper herself, Frankie is allowed to return home, but only if she's accompanied by her new Underworld guardians, Pretty and Scary. Frankie will now have to adapt to her 'once-dead' status in the most challenging setting of all... Middle School." Eliana Su'a stars as Frankie, with Kyan Samuels as Pretty, Leah Mei Gold as Scary, Yonas Kibreab as Remy, and Emma Shannon as Nyx. CakeStart Entertainment and Cloudco Entertainment are behind the project, due in summer 2023, with Jessica Kaminsky, Kory Lunsford, Loris Kramer Lunsford, Sean Gorman, Ian Lambur, Ryan Wiesbrock, Jason Netter and Ed Galton executive producing. SINKING SPRING (Apple TV+) - Marin Ireland will star opposite Brian Tyree Henry and Michael Mando in the crime drama series as Kristy Lynne, "a fiery, foul-mouthed woman entrenched deeply in a high intensity drug trafficking area in rural Pennsylvania, who survives a life-threatening assault. As she reclaims her voice and health, she becomes obsessed with finding the culprits and unraveling the plot that nearly destroyed her." (Deadline.com)
WINCHESTERS, THE (The CW) - Gil McKinney will reprise his "Supernatural" role of Henry Winchester in an upcoming episode of the prequel series. (TVLine.com)
