Fans, Family, and Friends Return to Olympics for First Time Since 2018

NEW YORK, N.Y. - May 11, 2023 - With 14 months until the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad begin, NBCUniversal announced today that the NBC broadcast network and streaming service Peacock will be the company's primary platforms for its coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, scheduled for July 26-Aug. 11, 2024.

Every day, NBC will provide Olympic fans with at least nine hours of daytime coverage of the Summer Games' most exciting events, including live finals coverage of swimming, gymnastics, track & field, and more. With Paris six hours ahead of the United States' eastern time zone, the daytime takeover will feature that day's most popular events live on NBC in the morning and afternoon. Paris 2024 will have more programming hours on the NBC broadcast network than any previous Olympics.

Given the time difference and following live coverage all day, NBC will deliver an enhanced Olympics primetime show, providing three hours of edge-of-your-seat entertainment each night. The program will take the American audience up close and inside the Olympic day, weaving together the great competitions, moments, stories, and raw emotion for the massive primetime audience to share. Unprecedented behind-the-scenes access, new technology, and the world's greatest athletes competing in and around the most iconic locations in Paris will provide an epic television and streaming experience.

Peacock will be the streaming home of the 2024 Paris Olympics, providing fans with the most-comprehensive Olympic destination in U.S. media history. In a Summer Games first, the service will stream every sport and event, including all 329 medal events, and will feature full-event replays; all NBC programming; curated video clips; virtual channels; exclusive original programming; and more.

"The Paris Olympics are going to be the most binge-worthy event of 2024. Viewers will devour every moment of the Games for 17 straight nights on NBC in primetime where the stories of the day will be retold with special dramatic flair in front of the gathered American audience," said Pete Bevacqua, Chairman, NBC Sports. "For those wanting to watch the competition as it happens, Peacock will have everything live, creating the greatest single destination in sports media history. From the spectacular landmarks of Paris to the world's greatest athletes performing in front of full stadiums and arenas for the first time in six years, viewers can expect one of the most extraordinary Olympics ever."

"Peacock is bringing the rich history of these incredible Games to our viewers like never before, providing unparalleled and unprecedented access to one of the world's greatest sporting events," said Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock and Direct to Consumer, NBCUniversal. "Already home to more live sports than any other SVOD service, Peacock is proud to be the streaming home of Team USA and all of their passionate fans."

Telemundo will provide extensive Spanish-language coverage of the Summer Games throughout the competition day with additional coverage on cable channel Universo. In addition to the most high-profile sports and events, the Telemundo broadcast network will be the home to the men's and women's soccer competitions in Spanish, with a special focus on Team USA.

Additional NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo programming details for the Paris Olympics as well as NBCU's cable coverage of the Games on USA Network, E!, CNBC, GOLF Channel and Universo will be announced at a later date. NBCU's coverage of the Paris Paralympics will take place Aug. 28 - Sept. 8, 2024, with details to be released at a later date.

For the first time since 2018, the Olympic Games will return to their true glory, with full stadiums and the world's greatest athletes competing against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Paris, where the modern Olympic Games were conceived 130 years ago. This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Olympics (1900 and 1924), tying London for the most as a Summer Games host. Los Angeles (1932, 1984) will tie those two cities when it hosts the first Summer Games in the U.S. in 32 years in 2028.

The Paris organizers are reimagining the Games to make them more accessible to the public and to showcase their city to the world. In a first, competitions will be held amidst iconic Parisian landmarks - beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower, equestrian at the Palace of Versailles, and urban sports at Place de la Concorde. The surfing competition will take place nearly 10,000 miles from Paris in Tahiti, a part of French Polynesia.

Similarly, the plans for the Opening Ceremony are unlike any other. Rather than a stadium, the organizers are turning one of the world's most famous waterways, the River Seine, into the world's biggest theatrical stage. Instead of walking into a stadium, a four-mile-long flotilla will carry athletes from more than 200 countries past hundreds of thousands of spectators seated on the banks of the Seine. It promises to be one of the most spectacular Opening Ceremonies in Olympic history.

NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo will present live coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Having led the medal count at every Summer Games since 1996, Team USA is expected to soar once again in Paris. A combination of expected returning stars - including record-breaking athletes Katie Ledecky, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and Noah Lyles - new Olympic hopefuls, and dominant U.S. teams will have viewers riveted throughout the Games.

The women of Team USA are expected to excel once again. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was the third Summer Games in a row in which U.S. women won more than half of U.S. medals (58%). The women also won more medals in Tokyo (66) than all other nationsexcept two.

The U.S. women's basketball team will be vying for an unprecedented eighth consecutive gold medal, while the reigning world champion women's gymnastics and soccer teams will be looking to reclaim their spots on top of the Olympic podium. For the men, the Dream Team will be back and looking to take on an invigorated international field led by numerous NBA superstars, and, for the first time since 2008, Team USA will compete in the men's Olympic soccer tournament.

NBCUniversal owns the U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032, which are scheduled for Paris (2024), Milan Cortina (2026), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032). The host city for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games has not yet been chosen.
