CBS' "SURVIVOR Buff Takeover," the Network's immersive and interactive national campaign in celebration of the upcoming 45th season of the groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning CBS Original series SURVIVOR, will bedeck famous statues, icons and landmarks from coast-to-coast with enormous adaptations of the reality show's signature Buffs(R), from Sept. 21 through this season's Wednesday, Sept. 27 premiere.
Each of the landmarks or characters symbolizes the concept of strength in its own unique way - from their physical size or their role in honoring an outstanding achievement in their field, to commemorating a historical figure who has overcome an incredible obstacle. Together, these landmarks parallel the different examples of strength exemplified by the contestants on the show throughout SURVIVOR's 45 seasons.
The landmarks include:
· Green Giant in Blue Earth, Minn.
· Make Way for Ducklings in Boston, Mass.
· Forever Marilyn in Palm Springs, Calif.
· Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Hollywood, Calif.
· Monster Monument at Dover Motor Speedway in Dover, Del.
· Gulfstream Park's Pegasus and The Dragon in Hallandale Beach, Fla.
· Tuska statue at University of Alabama
· Ralphie statue at University of Colorado, Boulder
Ranking as the biggest SURVIVOR Buff of all time is the one to be worn by Miles the Monster, logging in at 104 feet by 14 feet! Coming in second and third largest are the 66 by 11 foot-long Buff for Pegasus (the Dragon won't be "buffed") and the 40 by 5 foot-long Buff for the Green Giant.
Additionally, with football season officially in full force, the takeover will blitz fields nationwide with game day mascots (including the Seattle Seahawks' "Blitz," the University of Alabama's "Big Al" and University of Colorado's "Chip") sporting SURVIVOR Buffs.
Fans are encouraged to post #SurvivorBuffTakeover from their closest "buffed" landmark and to engage with the first-of-their-kind SURVIVOR buff AR (Augmented Reality) lenses on Snapchat and TikTok. Additionally, the Network will bring together generations of fans - existing and new - nationwide with Surprise and Delight moments leading up to the highly anticipated 45th season. For more information, go to the SURVIVOR social channels on Meta, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter/X.
Also, in an homage to SURVIVOR's iconic torches, New York City's legendary Empire State Building will be illuminated in yellow, blue and red on Tuesday, Sept. 26, representing each tribe on SURVIVOR season 45, and viewfinders on the 86th floor observatory will be donning the colorful buffs as well.
"This campaign honors the tremendous impact SURVIVOR has had on American culture with 652 exciting episodes over its 23 years on CBS," said Mike Benson, president and chief marketing officer at CBS. "What better way to celebrate the 45th season of this great game - and arguably its biggest season yet - than by draping a group of giant landmarks throughout the country with the biggest SURVIVOR Buffs of all time - and lighting the Empire State Building, a beloved beacon of the New York City skyline, with this SURVIVOR season's iconic tribe colors."
This season, for the first time, SURVIVOR features 90-minute episodes each week - up from the longtime 60-minute episodes.
SURVIVOR, currently nominated for three Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Reality Competition Program, continues to evolve when the 18 new players face one of the most intense versions of the game ever. This season will define a bold new era of the series with the return of risky advantages, game-changing twists and a relentless pace that pushes these castaways to their limits. Values will be tested and the players' motivations highlighted when the fierce competition unfolds on the beautiful islands of Fiji. The individuals competing bring diverse backgrounds and fresh perspectives to this new era of the game, but the goal remains the same: to outwit, outplay and outlast, and in the end, only one will remain to claim the title of Sole Survivor and win the $1 million prize.
The show is hosted by Emmy Award winner Jeff Probst. Mark Burnett, Jeff Probst, Matt VanWagenen, Kahaia Pearson and Jesse Jensen are executive producers for S.E.G. Holdco., LLC.
The 45th season kicks off with its 90-minute premiere Wednesday, Sept. 27 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).
