Universal Studio Group Records 55 Nominations, Led by Critically Acclaimed Jean Smart-Starrer "Hacks"
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 17, 2024 - NBCUniversal earned 75 Emmy Award nominations Wednesday morning from the Television Academy, highlighted by key nods across the portfolio that included Peacock's first-ever program nominations - one for "The Traitors" and the other for "Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie."
Illustrating Peacock's continued momentum, the streamer totaled nine nominations, an increase versus the eight it had received a year ago.
Leading the Peacock charge was "The Traitors" with four noms, highlighted by not only its Reality Or Competition Program nom, but host Alan Cumming earning a nomination for Outstanding Host of a Reality Or Competition Program. In addition, the streamer scored with "Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie" for Outstanding Television Movie.
Other Peacock shows to receive nominations were "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" and "Twisted Metal."
Of the NBC shows that were Emmy nominated, "Saturday Night Live" led the pack with 18 (including shortform), eight more than last year. The iconic franchise scored for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series, Bowen Yang for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, Ryan Gosling for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Liz Patrick for Outstanding Directing of a Scripted Variety Series.
"Saturday Night Live" now extends its lead as the most nominated show in Emmy history. With the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series nomination, executive producer Lorne Michaels has 106 career Emmy nods - the most of any individual in Emmy history.
"Late Night with Seth Meyers" earned an Outstanding Variety Talk Series nomination for the third year in a row. With an additional nomination for "Late Night's" digital short form series, "Corrections" Meyers has now amassed 33 Emmy nominations.
Once again "The Voice," which received five total nods, was nominated for Outstanding Competition Program and has now been recognized in that category for 13 consecutive years (winning four times).
NBC's Jimmy Fallon-produced "Password" received its first-ever nomination for Outstanding Game Show while host Keke Palmer received her second consecutive nomination for Outstanding Host for a Game Show.
Jane Lynch also received a nom for Outstanding Host for a Game Show for "Weakest Link."
Other NBC shows Emmy nominated were "America's Got Talent" (Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Series, Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Series) and "Night Court" (Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series - Half-Hour, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Multi-Camera Comedy Series).
Bravo had a strong Emmy morning with six noms, including three for "Top Chef" and two for "Below Deck Down Under." "Vanderpump Rules" was nominated for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
With its Outstanding Reality Competition Program nod, "Top Chef" has now been nominated in that category every year since 2007. Kristen Kish made her mark with Academy members by receiving a nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality Or Reality Competition Program in her first year hosting "Top Chef."
Universal Studio Group (USG) garnered 55 nominations, including 17 for critically acclaimed "Hacks," which earned noms for Outstanding Comedy Series and Jean Smart for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. The studio also scored with "The Gilded Age," which received six noms, including Outstanding Drama Series and Carrie Coon for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are set for Sept. 7-8.
