Suspenseful Whodunnit Series WHO SHOT OTTO MUELLER? Makes Exclusive US Debut Thursday, February 13, 2025 on Viaplay

Twisty Agatha Christie-styled contemporary mystery drama is Viaplay's first original series produced in Estonia

Nominee for 'Best International Series' at Geneva International Film Festival

A tense, character-driven and surprising whodunit in the vein of Agatha Christie, Who Shot Otto Mueller? makes its exclusive debut in the US on Thursday, February 13, 2025 with all eight episodes available to binge on the Viaplay US streaming service for European and Nordic television. With each of the episodes offering a different suspect, motive, and their own account of the night, the question of who killed Otto is just the beginning. This also marks Viaplay's first original series produced in Estonia, a beautifully scenic country located in Northern Europe on the border of Russia.

Set at a stately rural mansion, this high-end, beautifully-filmed crime drama from Estonia features an unprecedented line-up of the country's top creative talents helmed by award-winning director René Vilbre (popular Class Reunion film trilogy) and written by Birk Rohelend (creator of long-running TV series The Pillow Club), as well as Estonia's star actors. This twisty contemporary thriller, which received a 'Best International Series' nomination at Geneva International Film Festival, explores the deadly consequences of family secrets, betrayal, and revenge, all while testing the limits of loyalty and justice.

Everyone has a story about Otto Mueller (Jaan Rekkor, Revenge Office) - and everyone has a motive. This riveting crime series follows Otto Mueller, a celebrated businessman and ex-Soviet wrestler who meets a grisly end on his 65th birthday and all his family members become the prime suspects. Detectives Agnes Maramaa (Doris Tislar) and Gabriel Vanem (Tambet Tuisk), who have just become partners, are thrust into their first high-profile case together, but their investigation quickly tests their own relationship. As they delve deeper into Otto's complex family dynamics, long-buried secrets come to light, and personal boundaries begin to blur.

Each episode focuses on a different family member, from Otto's youngest son, Oliver (Märt Avandi) - a once-promising musician - to his ambitious mistress, Marleen (Karmel Naudre) and distant wife, Merle (Liina Tennosaar). Soon dark truths about the successful and powerful man who once killed a wolf with his bare hands gradually start to come to light. With every new revelation, the detectives' grasp on the truth weakens, as their personal stakes in the case grow higher.

Aside from the aforementioned cast, other actors include Mait Malmsten as Otto's son Oskar, Evelin Võigemast as Oliver's wife Monika, Tiina Tauraite as Oliver's first wife Reeli, Hilje Murel as Oskar's wife Anneken, and Theodor Tabor as Otto's grandson, Robert.

Produced by Cuba Films for Viaplay, Who Shot Otto Mueller? is written by Birk Rohelend and directed by René Vilbre. (Viaplay Original, 8x45' episodes, Estonian w/English subtitles)
