True Crime Docuseries THE CASE OF IWONA WIECZOREK Makes Exclusive US Debut Thursday, February 27, 2025 on Viaplay

One of Poland's Highest-Profile Disappearances in Recent History Explored in Three-Part Series

#1 Show on Netflix Poland at Premiere

February 11, 2025- The true-crime documentary series, The Case of Iwona Wieczorek, delves into one of the most famous disappearances and unsolved mysteries in recent Polish history - a 19-year-old woman who went missing without a trace on a summer night near her seaport home. This captivating Polish series makes its exclusive US debut on Thursday, February 27 with all three episodes available to binge on the Viaplay US streaming service. The series landed at #1 on Netflix Poland when it premiered on the service there. (All episodes are English subtitled.)

On July 17, 2010, Iwona Wieczorek disappeared on her way home from a party at one of the area's most popular clubs. She had just graduated from high school and was ready to spend the summer in Spain. The last footsteps of Iwona end just a few minutes from her house in Gdańsk, a seaport located in the far north of Poland. Since then, the case has puzzled and intrigued the whole of Poland. Was it a kidnapping, a murder or maybe even an escape? Over the years, many clues have emerged.

This gripping series raises questions about the enigmatic circumstances surrounding her disappearance and the investigation itself - from the policeman who claims the perpetrator can be identified, to the online community and journalists who have formed their own theories - to Iwona's mother, Iwona Główczyńska, who will never give up her search.

The Case of Iwona Wieczorek features Iwona's mother, as well as key figures involved in the case including former Homicide Department Commissioner Marek Siewiert, former Director of the Criminal Bureau of the National Police Headquarters Marek Dyjasz, and Janusz Kaczmarczyk, who served as prosecutor at the time. The series also includes interviews with Krzysztof Rutkowski, the well-known private detective who became involved shortly after Iwona's vanishing, as well as lawyers, criminology specialists, the administrator of an online group dedicated to the case, and journalists who have been investigating Iwona's disappearance for years.

Viaplay has hundreds of true crime stories on its service including The Bunker, Under the Radar - Secrets of a Swedish Serial Killer, Norwegian Crime Stories, Crime Scene Sweden (10 Seasons, 68 stories), Polish Murder Secrets, The Priest from Hell, In the Mind of a Criminal, Deadly Women, The Copenhagen Killer, In the Mind of a Murderer, The Prize of Silence, The Preacher's Dark Side, A Murderer Goes Missing, and Natascha Kampusch - A Lifetime in Prison.

Produced by Jake Vision for Viaplay, The Case of Iwona Wieczorek is directed by Piotr Bernaś. (Viaplay Original, 3x45' episodes, Polish w/English subtitles)
