A Gripping Identity Chase Unfolds in New Thriller Series 'The Rat' (WT)

What happens when your identity is stolen by an unknown figure? Netflix has announced the production of its intriguing new series The Rat (WT), confirming the casting of Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu. Based on the Kakao Entertainment Webtoon "Field Mouse," which draws inspiration from an old Korean folktale where a rat transforms into a human by consuming clipped fingernails, The Rat (WT) is a chilling thriller about a reclusive novelist forming an unlikely alliance with a loan shark - who once chased him down - to hunt the mysterious "Rat" who's stolen everything from him.

Ryu Jun-yeol (Revelations, The 8 Show) plays Moon-jae, a sociophobic novelist who leads a reclusive life. One seemingly ordinary day, he can't unlock his phone with his fingerprint, and his only friend, who helped him with everything, goes missing. Stripped of his name, identity, and finances, Moon-jae discovers that a mysterious "Rat" has taken everything from him. Determined to reclaim his life, he goes on a journey to uncover the truth. Sul Kyung-gu (The Whirlwind, Kill Boksoon) transforms into a loan shark who runs a private detective agency and will stop at nothing when it comes to money. No-ja, who once pursued Moon-jae after he disappeared with an unpaid loan, is surprised when Moon-jae reappears three years later, asking for help to track down the "Rat." While initially focused on getting his money back, No-ja soon gets swept up in the hunt. The Rat (WT) marks the first team-up of seasoned actors Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu.

Helming the project is director Kim Hong-sun, known for his specialty in directing genre shows like Dear Hongrang, Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area, The Guest, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning, Voice. The series is penned by Lee Jae-gon, who has written classic crime shows like Special Affairs Team TEN and gripping, character-driven stories like A Model Family. Their collaboration, both masters of thrillers and mysteries, sets the stage for a high-caliber, mind-bending series. Kakao Entertainment, renowned for its exceptional production expertise in adapting webtoons and web novels into hits such as Karma, Call It Love, and Business Proposal, is co-producing the series alongside CJes Studios and H.House, further raising anticipation.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Rat (WT), only on Netflix.
