Literary Suspense Comes Alive in Korean Series 'Notes from the Last Row', Greenlit for Production

Netflix has announced the production of a new Korean series, Notes from the Last Row, featuring a stellar cast including Choi Min-sik, Choi Hyun-wook, Huh Joon-ho, Kim Yunjin, and Jin Kyung. Based on the popular Spanish play "El Chico de la última fila," this suspenseful drama centers around Heo Mun-oh, a grumpy literature professor and failed writer who becomes enamored by the talent of Lee Kang, a mysterious student who always sits in the back row of his class.

Things begin to unfold when Mun-oh, burdened by insecurity and unfulfilled dreams, begins special literature classes with Lee Kang, whose brilliance reignites Mun-oh's passion for writing. As their relationship develops, the series promises unexpected twists and turns.

Choi Min-sik, known for his roles in Exhuma and Big Bet, plays the complex Heo Mun-oh. After reading Lee Kang's writing assignment - the only submission that piques his interest - he takes Lee Kang under his wing. Choi Min-sik's portrayal of Mun-oh's troubled mind is set to be compelling.

Opposite him, Choi Hyun-wook, acclaimed for Weak Hero Class 1 and Twenty-Five Twenty-One, plays Lee Kang, an engineering student with a hidden literary gift. Under Mun-oh's mentorship, Lee Kang embarks on an unpredictable journey, shaped by Mun-oh's deep interest in his work.

Huh Joon-ho (Buried Hearts, Noryang: Deadly Sea) adds depth to the story as Kim Su-hun, Mun-oh's successful writer friend. Laid-back and self-assured due to his fame, Su-hun was once the source of Mun-oh's secret jealousy, leaving Mun-oh with a lingering sense of defeat. Kim Yunjin (Lost, Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area) portrays Su-hun's wife, Ahn Eun-joo, while Jin Kyung (Veteran, Extraordinary Attorney Woo) plays Jo Hyeon-suk, Mun-oh's psychologist wife, rounding out a remarkable ensemble cast.

Directed by Kim Gyu-tae (The Trunk, Our Blues), known for his nuanced exploration of the human psyche, and penned by Jang Myung-woo (My Mother, the Mermaid), Notes from the Last Row is set to deliver intense suspense through a complex web of relationships surrounding the characters, marked by volatile emotions. Produced by Kakao Entertainment and Gtist, this drama promises engaging storytelling with a talented production team.

Stay tuned for more updates on Notes from the Last Row, only on Netflix.
