Netflix Will Invest More Than €1 Billion in Spain Between 2025 and 2028

Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, has announced an investment of more than one billion euros in Spain between 2025 and 2028. The streaming company, which is celebrating a decade since its arrival in Spain, has reinforced its commitment to the local audiovisual industry at an event attended by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López. The conference took place at the production hub that Netflix opened in Tres Cantos (Madrid) in 2019, which is its largest filming facility in the European Union.

Ted Sarandos Keynote:

Good morning, everyone.

I'm thrilled to join you all in our world-class production hub.

A special thank you to President Pedro Sánchez and Minister Óscar López for being here with us today.

And thank you to members of the government, institutional partners and our friends from across Spain's creative community for joining us.

Coming to Spain is always exciting, but this trip is particularly special - because this year Netflix is celebrating our 10th anniversary in Spain.

For the last decade, we have been on an incredible journey alongside all of you. Together, we have brought local series and films to our members here and around the world. More than 1000 Spanish titles since 2017.

These stories have come from every corner of the country.

Our very first Spanish original series, Cable Girls, shot right here on the streets of Madrid.

The Snow Girl in Andalusia.

Nowhere filmed on the beaches of Sitges.

All The Truth Behind My Lies, which is shooting right now in Murcia.

Ten years Spain

We have filmed in over 200 cities and towns across every autonomous community in Spain - and we still haven't run out of beautiful places to film!

This has brought to the screen all the different sides of Spain. It has led to real economic benefits in communities across the country. And it has helped support more than 20,000 jobs in the Spanish audiovisual sector.

Alongside your rich cultural heritage, vibrant entertainment industry and brilliant creative talent, Spain is also a great place to do business. You've supported regulations that encourage creativity, innovation, and long-term thinking.

All of that has inspired us to establish our beautiful home here in Tres Cantos - a symbol of our deep, sustained commitment to Spain.

I have been to many iconic stages all around the world - and the facilities here are truly second to none. 22,000 square meters. Ten outstanding sound stages. A world-class post-production facility. A seamless experience.

Some of the biggest creators in Spain have shot some of our most beloved titles here:

Bayona's Society of the Snow, which went on to win 12 Goya awards.

Elite from Carlos Montero. It's our longest-running Spanish series ever. In fact, it's our longest-running international series ever.

La Casa de Papel, Berlin and the upcoming Billionaires' Bunker from Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato.

These titles and countless others have captivated audiences in Spain and around the world.

Last year alone, Spanish titles generated over 5B hours of viewing on Netflix. Dali masks, red jumpsuits, Bella Ciao - all of them have become instantly recognisable parts of the global culture.

The reason these films and series resonate is clear - they are all, in their own way, authentically Spanish. Made in Spain by Spanish producers, Spanish creators, Spanish cast, Spanish crews. And all made for Spanish audiences.

But after 10 fantastic years, we want to further our long-term commitment to Spain.

President, I am honored today to announce that over the next four years we plan to invest over 1B euros in Spain.

With this investment, we will be able to contribute even more to the Spanish economy. Create more Spanish jobs. Tell more great stories made in Spain. Support the next generation of creative talent here in Spain.

Our investment would not be possible without the support of many, many people.

So let me thank the creators, producers, writers, directors, crews, and artists who have partnered with us over the last 10 years. Thank you for allowing us to bring your stories to fans everywhere.

And finally, President, thank you.

We commend Spain for its efforts and commitment to the audiovisual sector. We look forward to working with you and your teams to grow the economy, create opportunity and bring more of this beautiful, rich Spanish heritage to the world.

The last 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary - and we look forward to the next 10 years and beyond.

Thank you all.
