MIGUEL HERRÁN WILL PLAY POLI DÍAZ IN "EL POTRO DE VALLECAS," THE NEW FILM BY DANIEL CALPARSORO FOR NETFLIX
Netflix has announced today the start of production on El Potro de Vallecas, its new film directed by Daniel Calparsoro (Hasta el cielo, Asalto al Banco Central), and starring Miguel Herrán ((La casa de papel, Modelo 77) in the role of Policarpo 'Poli' Díaz, a legend of Spanish boxing.
Inspired by true events, the film follows the life of Policarpo "Poli" Díaz (Miguel Herrán), a young man from Vallecas who, despite a childhood marked by poverty and family violence, became a boxing legend in 1980s Spain, even fighting for the world lightweight title. But success and fame drew him into a world of excess, where drugs and poor decisions threatened to destroy everything he had achieved. It is a story of rise and fall, where Poli's greatest fight will be against himself.
In the words of Daniel Calparsoro: "This is a fast-paced story about the struggle of a young man who comes from nothing - a boxer who rises to the top of his sport and fame, but lacks the cultural and emotional tools to handle his success. It's the story of a young man facing his own demons, who became the people's champion and a symbol of overcoming adversity."
Produced by Alea Media, the film is directed by Daniel Calparsoro, who serves as executive producer alongside Aitor Gabilondo (Salvador, Patria), and written by Carlos Franco. Filming has already begun and will take place in various locations in Madrid and Segovia.
