When Love and Ideals Clash: 'My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend' Starts Production

A first love comes back into your life after seven years, but this time, she's a fiercely committed feminist who is unwavering in her beliefs. What follows is a clash of romance and principles, where neither "love" nor "rights" is up for compromise.

Netflix has begun production on My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend, a wildly charming romantic comedy, set for release in 2026.

The live-action film is based on Min Ji Hyoung's hit Korean novel "My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend," which shot to popularity for its bold title and candid look at modern relationships. Dubbed the feminist version of My Sassy Girl, the book sparked discussion online and earned passionate support from readers. Its Japanese edition also proved a success, going into reprint shortly after publication.

Mei Nagano, known for her roles in the Netflix series Burn the House Down and films such as Cells at Work! and Kakukaku Shikajika, takes on the lead role of the unapologetically feminist ex-girlfriend whose emotional honesty clashes head-on with a man who once thought he knew her best.

The film is directed by Keiichi Kobayashi, whose works - including A Girl & Her Guard Dog, Love is Light, and He Won't Kill, She Won't Die - span everything from the whimsical to the deeply realistic. In this adaptation, Kobayashi brings his nuanced touch to the story of two people reunited after years apart, navigating old wounds, new identities, and the complicated truths that shape contemporary love.

Blending humor, heart, and sharp observation, My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend captures what happens when personal growth challenges old expectations, and when love has to contend with who we have become.

My Crazy Feminist Girlfriend is set to stream in 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
