HBO Renews Original Spanish Series RAGE

The series, created and directed by Félix Sabroso, will return in 2026 with a second season starring a new group of actresses and several returning cast members from the first season

Acclaimed by critics and reaping awards and nominations at the industry's most prestigious competitions, the series has been HBO Max Spain's third most-watched premiere since 2021, only behind new seasons of the HBO Original series "House of the Dragon" and "The Last of Us"

HBO announced today the renewal of the original series RAGE, created and directed by Félix Sabroso and produced by Producciones Mandarina. The second instalment, starring a new ensemble cast, will include returning cast members from the first season and will arrive on the platform in 2026.

RAGE, which premiered in July 2025, has been the platform's most-watched series in Spain, second only to "House of the Dragon" and "The Last of Us." National and international critics have said it is "One of the best Spanish series of the year" (Sensacine), "brilliant, fun, colorful, and surprising" (The New York Times), "several good intertwined stories and a stellar cast" (El País), and "an aesthetic, emotional, and narrative shock" (La Razón).

Félix Sabroso, creator of the series, explains why he has opted for new actresses and storylines for the upcoming episodes: "I think RAGE has a very authentic perspective, and it was riskier and more honest to offer new ideas so that the story could continue with the same strength. Even so, I don't want to lose some of the most beloved characters from the first season."

The first season of RAGE brought together actresses Carmen Machi, Candela Peña, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza, and Pilar Castro on screen for the first time, which earned it a special jury prize for the leading cast at the European Rose d'Or Awards, presented by the EBU, which each year highlight the best television productions, as well as the Ondas Award for Best female performance for the five leading ladies alongside Claudia Salas and Ana Torrent. In addition, the series has received nominations for the Premios Feroz (Best comedy series, Best series screenplay, and Best actress for Candela Peña, Premios Forqué (Best female performance for Candela Peña), and Premios Iris (Best actress for Candela Peña and Best fiction direction for Félix Sabroso), among others.

RAGE is a contemporary portrait of five women: five female characters who lead this surprising, realistic, and intense drama. Five women willing to do anything in extreme situations such as extortion, oppression, deception, exclusion, or manipulation in a single shared, contemporary universe, articulated around five conflicts that will unfold like a butterfly effect, one as a consequence of the other. Until they reach a shared catharsis. A kaleidoscopic portrait of the current social moment with high doses of irony and humor.
