New York, NY, September 13, 2005 - WE: Women's Entertainment announced today that the network received record ratings with the season 1 finale of its original series, "American Princess" (10p-11p), Sunday, September 11. The finale garnered a stellar 0.8 HH rating, marking it as the highest rated original telecast in WE's history. WE's new series, "American Princess" followed twenty young women who competed to make their childhood fairy tale dream a reality by participating in a variety of challenges designed to test their skills, character, and suitability for a princess lifestyle.
"American Princess" on 9/11/05 achieved a 0.8 HH RTG from 10p-11p making it:
- The #1 rated original telecast in WE's history
- The #1 rated original telecast for the 04-05 cable broadcast season
- The #4 rated telecast (original series or movie) in WE's history
- The #1 ranked WE telecast (original series or movie) for W18-49 & W25-54 delivery in WE's history
"'American Princess' is a breakthrough series and we are very excited with the success we are seeing," stated Kim Martin, WE's General Manager & Executive Vice President. "During my first eight months as WE's General Manager, the network has been committed to producing quality original programs. Today's announcement signifies that our plan is not only taking shape, but also driving the network towards future success."
In this cross between "America's Top Model" and "The Princess Diaries," a group of regular American Janes are sent to England for "Blue Blood Boot Camp" as they compete for an actual royal British title. With the help of celebrity judges such as Princess Diana's butler, Paul Burrell, real-life princess (and actress) Catherine Oxenberg, billionaire impresario, Richard Branson, den mother Jean Brooke-Smith and a cast of royal experts and watchers, these women compete to become the first American princess. The hour-long, six-episode series premiered in August.
The record ratings score with "American Princess" comes on the heels of a successful summer for WE. The network's ratings increased by +50% from Summer '04 (0.2) to Summer '05 (0.3), making it the #3 network for Prime ratings growth (compared to networks in 50+ million homes). In addition, 70% of WE's top 10 rated telecasts in the 04-05 season to date, aired from Jun-05 to Aug-05. American Princess debuted on WE 8/7/05 with a 0.42 HH rating. Summer '05 was also WE's best summer ever for audience size and concentration, with HH delivery up +14% from Summer '04, and demo delivery and VPVH levels for W18-49 and W25-54 at their highest summer levels.
