Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)
Based on the preliminary estimates for the night, ABC ranked as the No. 1 network on Sunday in Total Viewers (14.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.4/14), besting CBS (12.3 million) and NBC (4.8/12), respectively. Please note that NBC's preliminary primetime numbers are based on Nielsen's "Fast Affiliate" time period ratings and are subject to change once Nielsen's "national" ratings are issued tomorrow morning. In addition, NBC has been "sustaining ratings" during the first half-hour of Sunday's prime, which tends to inflate its overall averages for the night by extracting low-rated numbers out of its nightly averages.
* For the third straight week, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" stood as Sunday's No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. Also for the third consecutive week, ABC aired the Top 3 entertainment series on Sunday in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, with "Desperate Housewives," "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Brothers & Sisters."
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)
Opposite Fox's high-rated NFL overrun, ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" took second place during the 7 o'clock hour among Adults 18-49 giving the Net a strong foothold during the opening hour of Sunday's prime. Currently in its 17th season, "AFHV" exhibited massive audience gains throughout its telecast, jumping by 2.8 million viewers (6.8 million to 9.6 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (2.0/6 to 3.0/9) from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" overshadowed its non-sports competition during the 8 o'clock hour, outdistancing CBS' "Amazing Race" by 4.7 million viewers (14.9 million vs. 10.2 million) and by 56% in Adults 18-49 (5.3/14 vs. 3.4/9).
* "Home Edition" was up from the prior week among Total Viewers (14.9 million vs. 14.8 million) and across the key men demographics: M18-34 (3.6/11 vs. 3.0/9), M18-49 (4.0/10 vs. 3.9/10) & M25-54 (4.5/11 vs. 4.4/10).
"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
The No. 1 TV show on Sunday for the third straight week among Total Viewers (20.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (8.5/19), ABC's "Desperate Housewives" dominated competition during in the 9 o'clock hour, including NBC's "Sunday Night Football" and CBS' "Cold Case." In fact ABC's "Desperate Housewives" towered over its CBS drama competition in the time period, defeating "Cold Case" by 7.1 million viewers and by124% in Adults 18-49 ("Cold Case" = 13.7 million & 3.8/9)
* "Housewives" was up over the previous week among young men: +7% in Men 18-34 (4.7/12 vs. 4.4/12) and +4% in Men 18-49 (5.4/13 vs. 5.2/12).
"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's freshman "Brothers & Sisters" defeated its CBS drama competition in its time period, veteran "Without a Trace," across the adult demographics: +41% in Adults 18-34 (4.1/11 vs. 2.9/8), +20% in Adults 18-49 (5.3/13 vs. 4.4/11) and +9% in Adults 25-54 (6.0/14 vs. 5.5/12). ABC won the 10 o'clock hour, beating NBC's NFL coverage in each of the women demos: W18-34 (5.6/15), W18-49 (7.5/18) & W25-54 (8.5/19).
* Similar to its lead-in, ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" was up from the prior week with Men 18-34 (2.6/7 vs. 2.2/7) and Men 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 2.8/7).
