Record-Breaking Year With Double-Digit Growth Among Female and Younger Viewers
SCI FI Tracking As #4 Entertainment Cable Channel in Q4
NEW YORK � December 18, 2007 � SCI FI Channel celebrates record-breaking growth for 2007 to date, reinforcing the mainstream popular appeal of the sci-fi fantasy genre. In addition to the recent explosion of sci-fi fantasy on television, the genre continues to enjoy massive worldwide success at the box office, in video gaming and publishing.
Driven by double-digit increases among female and younger viewers, SCI FI was up 21% among Adults18-34 year-to-year and 35% among Women 18 - 34. SCI FI continues to increase viewership year-to-year, ending 2007 with a boost of 6% in Adults 25-54 and 8% among Adults 18-49.
SCI FI is currently ranked #4 for viewers 25-54 in Q4 among entertainment cable networks following only USA, TBS and TNT. It's the Channel's highest ranking ever demonstrating its power as a general entertainment network.
2007 program highlights include:
TIN MAN IS MOST WATCHED PROGRAM* ON SCI FI� EVER
The epic miniseries Tin Man was SCI FI's most-watched event in the Channel's 15-year history sailing past record holders TAKEN and Dune. One out of every four viewers were new to the Channel. Among women, one out of three were new to the Channel.
Tin Man Night 1 broke all Channel records for total viewers in all key demos. With the addition of live plus seven-day data, Tin Man Part 1 becomes the #1 ad-supported entertainment telecast for Adults 25-54 on basic cable in 2007.
Tin Man Night 2 was the #1 entertainment telecast for Adults 25-54 on the most-watched night in ad-supported cable history.
Tin Man Night 3 was the #1 program for the day on its night, and is among SCI FI's top ten all-time telecasts for Total Viewers, Adults 25-54, and Adults 18-49.
GHOST HUNTERS IS #1 WEDNESDAYS AT 9PM** (Viewers 25-54 and 18-49)
Ghost Hunters continued to grow in its third season setting series highs in all key demos. Seven of the top ten Wednesdays for Adults18-49 viewers in SCI FI's 15-year history were Ghost Hunters Wednesdays.
EUREKA IS #1 TUESDAYS AT 9PM FOR ITS SECOND SEASON*** (25-54)
Eureka solidified its position as SCI FI's top summer series, averaging 1.3 million Adults 18-49 and 1.4 million Adults 25-54 in season 2. As a testament to SCI FI's growing appeal with younger viewers, Eureka saw an increase of 8% among Adults18-34, and an increase of 7% among Women 18-49. With the influx of new young viewers Eureka lowered the median age of its viewer by nearly three years from 47.1 to 44.3.
Eureka is one of the most heavily time-shifted series on cable this summer, with one-third of its viewing derived from DVR playback.
DESTINATION TRUTH IS SCI FI's BIGGEST REALITY LAUNCH IN 3 YEARS
Destination Truth launched as SCI FI's top reality series bow since Ghost Hunters (October 2004) averaging 806,000 Adults 18-49 and 774,000 Adults 25-54 for its premiere season.
Battlestar Galactica moved to Sundays in 1Q07 and grew its audience in key demos with increases of 4% in Adults18-34 and 1% in Adults18-49.
SCI FI has maintained a 1.0 household rating for its fifth consecutive year, as well as maintaining over one million total viewers in prime for the sixth consecutive year.
Additionally, SCI FI is a cable leader in the shift to C3 as currency, ranking as the top basic cable network in 4th quarter for C3 index. Battlestar Galactica and Eureka gained nearly one-third of their audience through time shifted viewing playback.
