Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

Opposite NBC with "Sunday Night Football" (Washington-Baltimore) and Fox with another huge primetime NFL overrun (Dallas-Pittsburgh), ABC took second place on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9) and won the evening across each of the key Women demos: W18-34 (4.3/12), W18-49 (4.9/12) and W25-54 (5.3/12). In fact the Network marked its 11th consecutive Sunday this season at No. 1 in Women 18-49. ABC defeated its non-sports competition on the evening, CBS, by 32% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9 vs. 2.8/7).

For its 10th consecutive airing this season, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" finished as Sunday's most-watched entertainment program. "Housewives" posted its 9th time in 10 broadcasts this season as Sunday's top-rated entertainment series in Adults 18-49.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Surging from its lead-in, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" outran CBS' season finale of "Amazing Race XII" among young adults, beating its unscripted competitor by 6% in Adults 18-49 (3.3/8 vs. 3.1/7) and by 8% in Adults 18-34 (2.6/7 vs. 2.4/7). "Home Edition" won its time period among Women 18-34 (3.3/9) and Women 18-49 (4.1/10), ranking No. 1 in the slot for the 9th time in 10 telecasts this season on the latter measure.

"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Sunday's No. 1 program, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" dominated its 9 o'clock time period in Total Viewers (16.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.9/13), outdelivering competition including NBC's NFL game (12.5 million & 4.8/11), CBS' original movie ("Front of the Class" = 11.0 million & 2.5/6) and Fox's animated comedies ("Family Guy"/"American Dad" = 5.9 million & 2.6/6).

"Housewives" was up week to week in Total Viewers (16.0 million vs. 15.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.9/13 vs. 5.7/12), while posting best-since-premiere numbers (9/28/08) in Adults 18-34 (5.3/13) and Women 18-34 (7.5/18). Excluding the season premiere, the show posted its highest Adult 18-34 and Women 18-34 ratings in over 1 year since 12/2/07.

"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" ranked No. 1 during Sunday's 10 o'clock hour across all key women, its 10th consecutive telecast this season to earn first place in Women 18-49 (5.4/13) and Women 25-54 (5.9/13). Once again the No. 1 non-sports show in the hour with young adults, "Brothers & Sisters" outdrew the final hour of CBS' original movie by 30% in Adults 18-49 (3.9/9 vs. 3.0/7).

Growing week to week by 6% in Viewers (10.7 million vs. 10.1 million) and by 15% in Adults 18-49 (3.9/10 vs. 3.4/8), "Brothers & Sisters" achieved its strongest results since its season opener 10 weeks ago since 9/28/08.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 28% currently, from 21% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
