October 9, 2009 (Burbank, CA) THE VAMPIRE DIARIES scared up a strong audience during its first October (otherwise known as "Vampire History Month") airing, according to preliminary live plus same day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.

Additionally TVD grew 20% year-to-year in adults 18-34 with a 1.8/6 and 69% in women 18-49 with a 2.2/6. The show also equaled its bloody good total viewer number from a week ago of 3.5M. NOTE: The final ratings for The CW's Thursday dramas improved from this morning's preliminary ratings, particularly with women, teens and female teens. This revised release reflects those changes.
