WEEK No. 19:

During the week of January 25, 2010, ABC grew its overall audience week to week (6.32 million vs. 6.31 million) and was up 9% over the same week last year (w/o 1/26/09 = 5.82 million).

Rankings: ABC aired 3 of the week's Top 20 television shows in both Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers: "The Bachelor" (No. 8/No. 12), "Desperate Housewives" (No. 11/No. 13) and "Castle" (No. 17/No. 16).

In fact, "The Bachelor" (hitting a season-high) moved in to the weekly Adult 18-49 Top 10 for the first time this season and "Castle" (hitting a series-high) posted the drama's highest-ever weekly ranking: Please note: ABC's Wednesday comedies were in repeat during the week for the State of the Union Address, while on Thursday both "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" aired rebroadcast episodes.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 35% currently, from 29% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

Marking its 6th straight week of Monday Adult 18-49 audience growth with a season-high number (3.6/9), ABC took second place on the night to Fox with originals of "House" and "24."
