ABC Surges by 31% Year to Year on Monday in Adults 18-49

Some early info on ABC's Monday, ahead of the regular press release.

With encore animated holiday specials, You Deserve It and a repeat airing of Castle, ABC posted impressive year-over-year growth on Monday, jumping over the year-ago evening with an all-original schedule by 31% in Adults 18-49. At 8pm, ABC's rebroadcast of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas took second place in its half-hour with Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, beating out Fox's first-run Terra Nova and the opening half-hour of NBC's The Sing Off finale. The animated holiday special finished a definitive #1 in it slot with Kids 2-11, drawing the Net's top number in the time slot in almost 2 years - since 12/7/09.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 43% currently, from 38% at the same point in 2010. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
