Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Moves Ahead of "Idol" to Rank #1 for the Week and Increases its Lead over "The Voice"

Live + 7 Day Ratings for the week of 4/9/12 (Week #30):

Based on the Live + 7 Day ratings for the week, ABC's Modern Family emerged as TV's #1 series for its 6th straight original telecast in Adults 18-49 (6.2 rating), moving ahead of both editions of Fox's American Idol to lead Idol-Weds by 5% (5.9) and Idol-Thurs by 24% (5.0). The ABC comedy also increased its advantage over NBC's The Voice (4.8) to +1.4 rating points (from +0.2 rating points in the initially reported Live + Same Day ratings). Originally in the Live + Same Day statistics, Modern Family ranked as the week's #3 program, behind both editions of American Idol. Modern Family also qualified as TV's most-watched comedy, outdrawing runner-up, CBS' Two and a Half Men, by 14% in Total Viewers (14.6 million vs. 12.8 million).

In addition, ABC's Grey's Anatomy emerged as TV's #1 drama in Adults 18-49 (4.5 rating) in the Live +7 Day numbers, leapfrogging over CBS' Criminal Minds (4.2) and NCIS (4.2). Initially in the Live + Same Day ratings, the ABC drama placed behind both CBS dramas.

· Based on Nielsen's DVR playback data for the week, ABC claimed the Top 2 biggest gainers among Adults 18-49 with Modern Family (+2.0 rating) and Grey's Anatomy (+1.6 rating). The ABC sitcom topped the charts for its 17th straight original telecast in both Total Viewers and young adults.

· ABC delivered 3 of the Top 6 biggest overall gainers via time-shifted viewing, with each show gaining at least 3.0 million viewers from their initially reported totals: Modern Family (+4.3 million), Grey's Anatomy (+3.1 million) and Body of Proof (+3.0 million).

Please note: Several of ABC's primetime series were in repeats or pre-empted this week, including Castle, Revenge, Once Upon a Time and Desperate Housewives.

Season-to-Date DVR Playback (9/19/11-4/15/12):

On average for the 2011-12 season, ABC's Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy are the season's Top 2 biggest gainers via time-shifted viewing among Adults 18-49 (picking up 2.5 rating points and 1.6 rating points, respectively), while the ABC sitcom is the season's biggest overall gainer among Total Viewers (+4.85 million).

· With Modern Family (7.8 rating) and Grey's Anatomy (5.2), ABC claims this season's #1 scripted series/comedy and #1 drama, respectively, in the key young adult demo based on original telecasts. In fact, Modern Family leads NBC's The Voice (6.8) to stand as the #1 entertainment program of the season and is within 2-tenths of a rating point of NBC's Sunday Night Football (8.0) to qualify as the season's #1 program overall.
