Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Leapfrogs Over "Idol," "Big Bang" and "The Voice" to Stand as TV's #1 Show
Live + 7 Day Ratings for the week of 5/7/12 (Week #34):
Based on the Live + 7 Day ratings, ABC's Modern Family emerged as TV's definitive #1 program of the week in Adults 18-49 (6.7 rating), moving ahead of the week's initial leader, Fox's American Idol-Weds, to lead by 29% (5.2). The ABC sitcom moved out of a tie with CBS' The Big Bang Theory in the originally reported Live + Same Day numbers to top the season finale of the CBS sitcom by nearly one full rating point (+0.8 rating points - 6.7 vs. 5.9) in the Live + 7 numbers. In addition, Modern Family towered over the finale of NBC's The Voice: Results Show by nearly two full rating points (+1.8 rating points - 6.7 vs. 4.9) after tying the NBC program in the Live + Same Day statistics.
ABC's Grey's Anatomy moved up to rank as TV's #4 program of the week among Adults 18-49 (4.9 rating - tied with The Voice: Results), leapfrogging over the season finales of CBS' Two and a Half Men (4.7) and NBC's The Voice (4.5) and American Idol-Thurs (4.5). Initially in the Live + Same Day statistics, Grey's placed as the week's #8 program. The ABC drama solidified its claim as TV's #1 drama of the week in young adults.
· Based on Nielsen's DVR playback data for the week, Modern Family registered as the biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 for its 20th straight original telecast, adding on 4.54 million viewers and 2.3 rating points to its Live + Same Day numbers.
· Impressively, ABC had 7 shows gain more than 2 million viewers from their initially reported totals via time-shifted viewing: Modern Family (+4.54 million), Grey's Anatomy (+2.91 million), Castle (+2.74 million), Revenge (+2.49 million), Once Upon a Time (+2.20 million), Private Practice (+2.14 million) and Desperate Housewives (+2.11 million).
· Among Adults 18-49, ABC saw 5 series add on at least a full rating point over their initially reported numbers, including 2 of the 4 biggest gainers: Modern Family (+2.3 rating - 4.4 to 6.7), Grey's Anatomy (+1.4 rating - 3.5 to 4.9), Once Upon a Time (+1.0 rating - 3.3 to 4.3), Private Practice (+1.0 rating - 1.4 to 2.4) and Revenge (+1.0 rating - 2.2 to 3.2).

On average for the 2011-12 season, ABC's Modern Family and Grey's Anatomy are the season's Top 2 biggest gainers via time-shifted viewing among Adults 18-49 (picking up 2.5 rating points and 1.6 rating points, respectively), while the ABC sitcom remains the season's biggest overall gainer among Total Viewers (+4.78 million).
· With Modern Family (7.6 rating) and Grey's Anatomy (5.1), ABC claims this season's #1 scripted series/comedy and #1 drama, respectively, in the key young adult demo based on original telecasts. In fact, Modern Family leads CBS' The Big Bang Theory (6.5) to stand as the #1 entertainment program of the season and is within 4-tenths of a rating point of NBC's Sunday Night Football (8.0) to tie as the season's #1 program overall.
