ABC's Mix of Repeat and Original Sunday Programming Tops Fox's Lineup by Nearly 1 Million Viewers

Info on ABC's Sunday, ahead of the regular press release.

Opposite CBS with its NFL overrun-fueled lineup (Steelers-Cowboys) including the 3-hour season finale of Survivor: Philippines and NBC with another big NFL game (New England-San Francisco), ABC outdrew Fox on the night by nearly 1.0 million viewers

During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat America's Funniest Home Videos more than doubled the audience of Fox's animated comedies (The Cleveland Show/The Cleveland Show) and also led by 8% among Adults 18-49.

· In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, the Christmas-themed AFHV marked the show's strongest repeat performance in 1 year - since 12/18/11 and 12/11/11, respectively.

From 8-9pm, ABC's special encore broadcast of Wipeout (Deck the Balls) drew more viewers than Fox's first-run Christmas-themed comedies (The Simpsons/Bob's Burgers).

· Wipeout was up from its most-recent repeat airing (on 8/9/12) by 6% in Total Viewers and by 9% in Adults 18-49.

Up against fierce competition from 9-11pm from NBC's Sunday Night Football and CBS' Survivor finale, ABC's The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding saw its overall audience surge by 16% from its first hour to its second hour. The special also built by double-digit percentages from its first to second hour across all key Women demographics: W18-34 (+10%), W18-49 (+27%) and W25-54 (+13%).

Up Against Big Competition from NBC's NFL Game and CBS' "Survivor" Finale, "The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding" Builds by Double Digits from 9-11pm

Sunday Night (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

Opposite CBS with its NFL overrun-fueled lineup (Steelers-Cowboys) including the 3-hour season finale of "Survivor: Philippines," and NBC with another big NFL game (New England-San Francisco), ABC outdrew Fox on the night by nearly 1.0 million viewers (4.2 million vs. 3.3 million).

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "America's Funniest Home Videos" (6.3 million and 1.4/4) more than doubled the audience of Fox's animated comedies ("The Cleveland Show"/"The Cleveland Show" = 3.1 million and 1.3/4) and also led by 8% among Adults 18-49.

· In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, the Christmas-themed "AFHV" marked the show's strongest repeat performance in 1 year - since 12/18/11 and 12/11/11, respectively.

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

In the 8:00 p.m. hour, ABC's special encore broadcast of "Wipeout" ("Deck the Balls" = 3.7 million) drew more viewers than Fox's first-run Christmas-themed comedies ("The Simpsons"/"Bob's Burgers" = 3.6 million).

Up against fierce competition from 9:00-11:00 p.m. from NBC's "Sunday Night Football" and CBS' "Survivor" finale, ABC's "The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding" saw its overall audience surge by 16% from its first hour to its second hour (3.1 million to 3.6 million). The special also built by double-digit percentages from its first to second hour across all key Women demographics: W18-34 (+10%), W18-49 (+27%) and W25-54 (+13%).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 46% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
