ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" Is Up 20% to Tie Its Top Rating Since Last July

On its first telecast in 3 weeks, following preemptions for the NBA Finals, ABC's Extreme Weight Loss was up 20% in Adults 18-49 over its last airing (on 6/4/13), equaling its highest rating since July 15, 2012. Building from 8-10pm against stiff Tuesday competition from Fox's So You Think You Can Dance and NBC's America's Got Talent, the ABC unscripted series grew by 11% in viewers and by 30% in young adults from its first half-hour to its final half-hour.

On its first telecast in 3 weeks, following preemptions for the NBA Finals, ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" was up 20% in Adults 18-49 over its last airing (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/3 on 6/4/13), equaling its highest rating since July 15, 2012. Hitting new season highs in Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34, "Extreme Weigh Loss" also delivered its best numbers since July 15, 2012 on both measures.

· Building from 8:00-10:00 p.m. against stiff Tuesday competition from Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" and NBC's "America's Got Talent," the ABC unscripted series grew by 11% in viewers (3.7 million to 4.1 million) and by 30% in young adults (1.0/4 to 1.3/4) from its first half-hour to its final half-hour.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 44% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
