"Monday Night Football's" 49ers-Redskins Telecast Helps ESPN Win the Night among All Networks in Key Male and Adult Demos
Last night's Monday Night Football telecast - a San Francisco 49ers' 27-6 victory over the Washington Redskins - helped ESPN win the night among all networks (broadcast or cable) in all key male and adult demos. The MNF game ranked as the top telecast of the night across cable and broadcast in those same categories.
The 49ers-Redskins telecast earned an 8.2 US rating, representing an average of 9,534,000 households and 13,159,000 viewers (P2+), according to Nielsen. Coverage peaked from 9:45-10 p.m. ET with a 9.3 US rating.
In San Francisco, the game delivered a 10.1 rating on ESPN and a 12.8 on WPIX-CBS, for a combined 22.9 rating in the market. In Washington D.C., the game delivered a 16.9 rating on ESPN and a 9.1 on WDCA-IND, for a combined 26.0 rating in the market
The top 10 metered markets (in addition to the markets of the competing teams) were Sacramento (19.1), Richmond-Petersburg (18.5), New Orleans (16.0), Las Vegas (15.0), San Diego (14.8), Norfolk (14.2), Seattle-Tacoma (13.9), Baltimore (13.4), Greensboro (12.1) and Phoenix (11.7).
Through 12 weeks (13 games), ESPN's MNF is averaging an 8.4 US rating, 9,776,000 households and 13,344,000 viewers in 2013, increases of four percent versus the same period in 2012.
NFL on ESPN Digital Platforms
ESPN Digital Media's NFL content across all platforms - ESPN.com, mobile Web, apps and WatchESPN - through 13 Monday Night Football games over 12 days so far this season continue to log significant growth, generating an average minute audience of 629,000 during telecasts, an increase of 27 percent compared to the same time period last season. Specifically, last night's 49ers-Redskins game on WatchESPN logged 12.0 million live minutes, 187,000 unique viewers, and an average minute audience of 65,000, up 206 percent, 167 percent and 207 percent, respectively, compared to a year ago. Season to date, MNF on WatchESPN is averaging 182,000 unique viewers (up 109 percent), 12.7 million live minutes (up 146 percent) and an average minute audience of 64,000 (up 144 percent) per game.
Additionally, season to date on Sundays, ESPN Digital Media's average minute audience across all platforms is 616,000, up 17 percent compared to the same time period the previous year. Other highlights:
· Mobile apps logged the largest growth on Sunday, with the SportsCenter app generating an average minute audience of 147,000 (up 79 percent) and 7.8 million unique visitors (up 16 percent) while the ESPN Fantasy Football app logged an average minute audience of 164,000 (up 102 percent) and 4.0 million unique visitors (up 53 percent).
Saints (9-2) vs. Seahawks (10-1) on MNF This Week:
ESPN's MNF returns this week on December 2 at 8:25 p.m. when the NFC's top teams meet in one of the most anticipated games of the season - Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints (9-2) vs. Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks (10-1). With a combined 19-3 record in 2013, the Saints and Seahawks boast the second-highest collective winning percentage all-time for MNF opponents (.864), among teams playing at the 10-game mark or later in a season, according to Elias Sports. Seattle enters the game with a franchise record 13-game home win streak. This is the first meeting between the two teams since the Seahawks defeated the Saints 41-36 in a 2010 NFC Wild Card game.
