ABC's "Once Upon a Time" Tops Its Week-Ago Return in Total Viewers and Holds Even in Adults 18-49

Each of ABC's Sunday Dramas Gain Viewers Week to Week

Please Note: On the first evening of Daylight Saving Time, overall Adult 18-49 TV Usage was down on Sunday night week to week (-3% - 30.8 vs. 31.8): -5% from 7-8pm (26.9 vs. 28.3), -6% and 8-9pm (30.7 vs. 32.7), -5% from 9-10pm (33.7 vs. 35.3) and +3% from 10-11pm (31.9 vs. 31.1).

Once Upon a Time (8-9pm - 4.3 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

Despite facing much stronger competition in the hour from NBC's slot premiere of Little Big Shots from 8-9pm, ABC's Once Upon a Time was up 8% from last week's mid-season return in Total Viewers (4.3 million vs. 4.0 million) and even with Adults 18-49 (1.3/4).

The Family (9-10pm - 3.6 million and 0.8/2 in AD18-49):

At 9pm, ABC's The Family surged 16% in Total Viewers (3.6 million vs. 3.1 million) over its week-ago debut and remained even with Adults 18-49 (0.8/2).

Premiere TV Playback: Last week's premiere of ABC's The Family was Sunday's 2nd-biggest broadcast gainer in playback, behind only Quantico, surging +63% from L+SD to L+3 among young adults (from a 0.8 to a 1.3 rating).

Quantico (10-11pm - 3.9 million and 1.1/3 in AD18-49):

Shooting up 38% from its lead-in at 10pm, ABC's Quantico ranked #1 in the hour among Adults 18-49 (1.1/3) over CBS' finale of CSI: Cyber (1.0/3) and NBC's Hollywood Game Night (0.9/3). The ABC freshman drama built on last week's mid-season premiere in Total Viewers (+5% - 3.9 million vs. 3.7 million) and held even with Adults 18-49 (1.1/3).

TV Playback for Last Week: ABC's Quantico jumped to a 2.1 rating among Adults 18-49 in the L+3 numbers and emerged as Sunday's #1 broadcast program. The ABC drama nearly doubled its L+SD Adult 18-49 rating (1.1 to a 2.1 rating), catapulting +91% after just 3 days of TV playback. On a percentage basis, Quantico was the week's #1 gainer in playback on the major networks among young adults.

A note about DVR penetration: DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample is currently at 48% in U.S. TV Homes. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which are increasingly not reflected in the overnight Live + Same Day numbers. As a result, the Live + 7 Day ratings are the most accurate measure to gauge the size of the TV audience.
