PREMIERE OF 'ELENA OF AVALOR' RULES RATINGS
AMONG ALL TELEVISION CHANNELS FOR KIDS,
ALSO LEADS MULTITUDES TO THE DISNEY APP, VOD AND YOUTUBE
The simulcast premiere (July 22) of the animated series "Elena of Avalor" on Disney Channel and the 24-hour Disney Junior channel ranks as the No. 1 series telecast among all kid-targeted TV networks (Live + 3 ratings) in Total Viewers (4.2 million), Kids 2-11 (2.2 million/5.6 rating) and Adults 18-49 (1.1 million/0.9 rating), for 2016 to date. The first two episodes of "Elena of Avalor," which introduced a princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore, also generated 1.4 million viewer engagements - including over 1 million on the Disney Junior app in just its first few days - and an additional 3.9 million total views of the premiere episode and 13 videos on the YouTube Disney Channel. Among Hispanic viewers, the series premiere was the No. 1 TV telecast of 3Q 2016 to-date among the targeted Girls 2-11 (5.2 rating), Girls 6-8 (7.4 rating) and Girls 6-11 (6.0 rating) demographics.
To date, "Elena of Avalor" programming has delivered over 6.5 million viewer engagements on the Disney Channel app and Disney Junior app and another 686,000 engagements on Disney Channel Set-top Box Video-on-Demand. "Elena of Avalor"'s fan base is expansive with over 15 million across key social platforms Facebook (7.8 million), Twitter (1.5 million), Instagram (4.5 million) and YouTube (1.2 million).
For its premiere and encore telecasts to-date, "Elena of Avalor" has reached 12.6 million Total Viewers, including 5.5 million Kids 2-11 and 2.7 million Kids 2-5.
In Live + 3 day ratings versus Live + Same Day ratings, "Elena of Avalor" grew by solid double-digit percentages, including with Total Viewers (+31% - 4.2 million vs. 3.2 million), Kids 2-11 (+38% - 2.2 million vs. 1.6 million) and Adults 18-49(+26% - 1.1 million vs. 876,000).
Set in the enchanted fairytale land of Avalor, the series tells the story of Elena, a brave and adventurous teenager who has saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. Elena's journey leads her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders.
"Elena of Avalor" stars Aimee Carrero, Jenna Ortega, Chris Parnell, Yvette Nicole Brown, Carlos Alazraqui, Emiliano D�ez, Julia Vera, Christian Lanz, Jillian Rose Reed, Joseph Haro, Jorge Diaz, Keith Ferguson, and Joe Nunez. The recurring guest voice cast includes: Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Justina Machado, Jaime Camil, Rich Sommer, Tyler Posey, Lucas Grabeel and Echo Kellum. Latin Grammy Award winner Gaby Moreno performs the series' theme song and will also voice a guest role.
"Elena of Avalor" was created by Emmy Award winner Craig Gerber, who also serves as executive producer. Silvia Cardenas Olivas is the story editor, and Elliot M. Bour is the supervising director. The series' cultural advisors are Marcela Davison Avilés, founder of The Chapultepec Group, co-founder of the international Latino arts initiative Camino Arts, and Director of Humanities Programs at the FDR Foundation at Harvard University; and Diane Rodriguez, Associate Artistic Director of Centre Theatre Group, co-founder of the theatre ensemble Latins Anonymous, and member of the National Council on the Arts. Emmy Award-nominated Tony Morales ("Hatfields & McCoys") is the composer, Emmy Award winner John Kavanaugh ("Sofia the First") is the songwriter/music director, and acclaimed touring musician and Latin music instructor Rene Camacho serves as Latin music consultant.
"Elena of Avalor" is a production of Disney Television Animation and carries a TV-Y parental guideline.
Extensions for the series include Disney Parks & Resorts, which will welcome Princess Elena at Walt Disney World Resort this summer and at Disneyland Resort in the fall; print and e-book titles from Disney Publishing; and dolls, role-play products, accessories, home décor and apparel from Disney Store and licensees including Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, Franco Manufacturing and Children's Apparel Network. Walt Disney Records released a seven-track EP featuring songs from the series and Disney Studios will release an episode compilation DVD later this year.
