Friday's Broadcast Ratings: "MacGyver" Debuts on Top for CBS

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (9/23/16):

CBS (10.472 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) claimed top honors on Friday with the premiere of "MacGyver" (10.891 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) followed by the season openers to "Hawaii Five-0" (10.091 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2) and "Blue Bloods" (10.434 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2).

FOX (3.119 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then was the number two draw with the respective premieres of "Hell's Kitchen" (3.334 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T4) and "The Exorcist" (2.904 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.0, #7).

Next up was ABC (4.438 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) and the return of "Last Man Standing" (5.837 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T4), "Dr. Ken" (4.086 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T8), "Shark Tank" (4.940 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T4) and "20/20" (3.411 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.7, #10).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.856 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) offered up encores of "Superstore" (2.407 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T11) and "The Good Place" (2.341 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T11) plus "Dateline NBC" (4.597 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T8).

And finally, a new "Masters of Illusion" (1.048 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) and repeats of "Masters of Illusion" (1.042 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) and "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.210 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) closed out the evening on The CW (1.128 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.9/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.4/2, with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.2/4 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.3/4 with an encore. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.4/3 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.3/2 with an encore.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (9/25/15):

ABC (5.474 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #1) was the network to beat on Friday with the return of "Last Man Standing" (6.258 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T4), an encore of "The Muppets" (3.764 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #8), the season premiere of "Shark Tank" (5.965 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #1) and a new "20/20" (5.446 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2).

CBS (7.924 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.1, #2) then claimed the silver with the season openers to "The Amazing Race" (5.785 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T4), "Hawaii Five-0" (8.093 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T6) and "Blue Bloods" (9.895 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2).

Next up was NBC (4.396 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) with a repeat "Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris" (3.125 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10) and a two-hour "Dateline NBC" (5.031 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T6).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.251 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) served up encores of "Minority Report" (2.272 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T10) and "Rosewood" (2.231 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.5, #11).

And finally, a new "Masters of Illusion" (1.371 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.4, #12) and repeats of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.243 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) and "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.253 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T13) on The CW (1.280 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), said trio posted a 0.4, 0.2 and 0.2 rating, respectively.
