Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Opens 2018 with a "Bang" in Viewers, Demos

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/4/18):

CBS (10.062 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) was back on top last night thanks to the return of "The Big Bang Theory" (15.993 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.1, #1), "Young Sheldon" (14.672 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.6, #2), "Mom" (9.949 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3), "Life in Pieces" (7.409 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #5) and "SWAT" (6.174 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7).

FOX (3.733 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) then was the silver draw with the premiere of "The Four: Battle for Stardom" (3.654 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7) followed by a second "The Four: Battle for Stardom" (3.812 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.2, #6).

Next up was NBC (4.360 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #3) with the 2018 premieres of "Superstore" (3.924 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7), "The Good Place" (3.079 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.0, #12), "Will & Grace" (4.889 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4), "Great News" (2.480 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.6, #15) and "Chicago Fire" (5.894 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7).

Meanwhile, ABC (4.395 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.0, #4) offered up repeats of "The Middle" (3.586 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13) and "American Housewife" (2.771 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13) alongside the special "Truth and Lies: Waco" (5.003 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7).

And finally, repeats of "Supernatural" (1.031 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T16) and "Arrow" (0.699 million viewers, #17; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T16) on The CW (0.864 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) rounded out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 ratings were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.5/3 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.6/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/4.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.0/3 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.2/4 with an encore. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/2 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.3/2 with an encore.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

ABC (6.348 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #2) then was the silver draw with the penultimate week of "The Great Holiday Baking Show" (5.015 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T10) and the two-hour special "Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers" (7.015 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #4).

Next up was FOX (3.572 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #3) with its relocated "Hell's Kitchen" (3.680 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T6) followed by a second "Hell's Kitchen" (3.464 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #9).
