DISCOVERY CHANNEL DELIVERS YEAR OVER YEAR RATINGS GROWTH AMONG KEY DEMOS IN JULY
Driven by Shark Week 34 (July 24-30) which showed ratings gains of more than 10% year over year and freshman series Naked & Afraid XL: Frozen, the highest-rated spin off series to premiere on Discovery Channel in more than two years, the network delivered year over year ratings growth in July among P25-54 (+2%), M25-54 (+2%) and W25-54 (+3%). In addition, fan favorite original series Naked & Afraid XL was up +6% vs. the prior season, marking two consecutive seasons with ratings gains. Discovery Channel also broke into ad supported cable's top 5 networks for the month among P25-54, M25-54, and M18-49 and aired more top 10 unscripted cable series among M25-54 and M18-49 than any other ad supported cable network in July. Among the M25-54, these included: Naked & Afraid XL (#3), Gold Rush: Parker's Trail (#4), Deadliest Catch (#6) and Gold Rush: Dave Turin's Lost Mine (#9), while among M18-49, the series included: Naked & Afraid XL (#2), Deadliest Catch (#9) and Gold Rush: Parker's Trail (#10).
Shark Week 34 (July 24-30) did not disappoint as the summer's most anticipated programming event delivered double digit (+10%) year over year Prime Time ratings gains, marking the first time in four years (2018) that Shark Week delivered ratings growth. The event also delivered the largest year over year gains among Men 25-54 (+15%) in nine years (2013). Shark Week, enjoyed by the whole family, drove Discovery Channel to be the #1 cable network in Prime Time across the entire week among key demos that include Persons and Men 25-54, Persons 18-49, Persons and Women 18-34 and Persons 12-17, no exclusions. Additionally, Shark Week was the #1 most social Entertainment program on TV from 7/24/22 through 7/30/22 excluding sports & news; the event was also the #1 driver of social video views for Special or Event programs across all of TV and streaming during the same time period, increasing over +22% vs. last year (Source: Talkwalker).
