The Creators of 'Dark' Present '1899' - New Teaser and Exclusive Look Behind the Scenes of the New Mystery Series

Berlin, June 7, 2022 -- As part of GEEKED WEEK - a virtual event for fans of action, animation, fantasy, gaming and more - Netflix unveiled a spectacular new 1899 teaser and gave an exclusive behind-the-scenes sneak peek into the long awaited new mystery series by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the masterminds behind Netflix's globally successful and award-winning series DARK. In the clip, the creative duo talks about their collaboration together and reveal stunning images from the cutting edge and custom built LED virtual production studio called the "Volume". "The Volume frees the imagination," says writer, showrunner and producer Jantje Friese, "this visionary technology offers almost limitless possibilities for historical and fantastic stories." Director, showrunner and producer Baran bo Odar adds: "Using this state-of-the-art technology, virtual sets and locations can be projected behind the actors in a way that the camera department and actors feel as if they are at the original locations. This helps more than anything else to set the right mood while acting." The genre-bending new mystery thriller will be available worldwide on Netflix starting this winter!

About 1899

The eight episodes follow the mysterious circumstances around the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all of different backgrounds and nationalities, are united by their hopes and dreams for a new century and their future abroad. When they discover a second ship adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a nightmare-like riddle, connecting each of the passenger's pasts through a web of secrets.
