Netflix Reveals Teaser and Premiere Date For 'A Tragedy Foretold: Flight 3054', Its New Documentary Series
São Paulo, March 26, 2025 - Today, Netflix revealed the trailer and premiere date for A Tragedy Foretold: Flight 3054. The docuseries, premiering April 23, revisits the tragic accident that took place in São Paulo, Brazil, on July 17, 2007. That night, an airplane coming from the southern city of Porto Alegre overshot the runway upon landing at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, crossing a roadway and crashing into a building belonging to the same airline. The disaster took 199 lives and sparked important discussions about aviation safety in Brazil.
The three-episode documentary series explores the changes in the field of Brazilian aviation brought on by the accident, in addition to the devastating impact on the victims' families. The production investigates in detail every failure in the chain of events that led to the disaster. It also looks at the accident within the context of the so-called aviation crisis - months during which Brazil's civil aviation sector suffered nation-wide delays and cancellations, as well as accidents.
Produced by Pródigo Filmes in collaboration with Sobretudo Produção, the series was created by Angelo Defanti, who also directed all three episodes, written alongside Fábio Leal. Beto Gauss, Francesco Civita, Bárbara Defanti and Renata Grynszpan served as executive producers.
A Tragedy Foretold: Flight 3054 premieres April 23 only on Netflix
